Is Utah cycling any good?

Utah has excellent road and mountain biking. What is your preference?

Road. I never saw anyone riding when I was there last, maybe 3 years ago. We will know soon if our family will be relocating from TX to salt lake city area. I know the skiing is some of the best on the continent.

Salt Lake City is the worst place for cycling in the US. No painted bike lanes, not enough canyons to climb, broken glass on all the good rides. Skiing sucks here too, overrated mountains with crappy snow. Might as well relocate to someplace good like Arkansas for outdoor activities. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Or, this might just be the best place to live in the states. But don't tell anybody--it is starting to get crowded enough. The two things that are truly bad are the week-long inversions in the winter (think clouds of particle pollution that cuts visibility down to about a mile), and the nutty political climate. Having a legislature run by the LDS church puts an interesting spin on things. Some really wacko stories come out each year like shutting down profitable government-run liquor stores during a recession.

Amen on the wacky politics! Latest is the extension of the "Zion Curtain" to make it illegal to open or pour a beer within sight of restaurant patrons. Google "Zion Curtain" to see just how irrational a theocracy can be!
I don't know how you missed seeing riders here, unless it was mid winter, when only a few hardy souls are out. I see bikes every day, commuters, trainers, kids going to and from school and play, other old poops like me, just out enjoying the ride.

You do realize that the Wasatch mountains are one of the biggest skiing destinations for a reason right? Utah has the best snow in the country, as well as a lot of the world. We have more dry powder here, which is the preferable kind of snow. Light and fluffy, and lots of it. Snowbird had 800 inches this year, and was open until the 4th of July. And all of it is easily accessible.

As for cycling, I don't know. I've only just started. Where I live specifically, there are tons of smooth and long rarely trafficked roads with nice views.

Shhhhh! Little Cottonwood Canyon is crowded enough without more advertising.

And the Tour of Utah? It was a fake. The race was held in Alberta, because there are no paved roads in Utah. And the dental care is better in Canada.

To the rest of the world, stay out of Utah so I can bike and ski in peace. Really.

I hear the road riding and skiing is waaaayyyy better in Utah than Colorado. Stay over in Utah.

LOL..Mudman22...Agreed. I love riding here in Utah. I ride both mtn and now road. But lets keep the secret to our selves. I ride around the Sandy and Wasatch blvd area. I see quite a few riders on the road and I even ride at the 5am hour mostly.
