DIsk Swap out

Ok so i have a 2010 specialized hardrock that i have been swappin out parts for the past two years and have been really happy with the bike in general. But i was wondering if i could switch to a hydraulic disk brake and disk? I have a friend that i selling me a set of Hayes for cheap and he said that i could use the 7'' disks if i wanted them. But thats where i was uncertain if i could use the larger disk on a stock setup. Is there anyway to make them fit or am i stuck using the smaller disk with the new hydraulics ?

There exists a great many adapters for using any size disk you wish. You can go as low as 140mm all the way to 208mm.

like said, you just need the right caliper adapters from hayes for your style of fork/mounting system.

Some forks have a size limit.

Most forks are limited to 203mm (8"); can't figure out why, then, I could buy 9" disc brakes a couple years ago.

Adapters are everywhere, and are worth the investment. In my experience, the 6" discs were only marginally better than V's; the 7" are sweet, but for me at least, 8" were overkill. One-finger braking put me on my face with 8". All of mine have been the mechanicals, never have run hydro. Showroom testing of hydro wasn't agreeable, felt "remote".
