It has been bound to happen, I guess. Ive been riding a road bike +25 years and have had my share of close calls this is the first time I have actually been hit by a moving car . Luckily I was not run over but thrown off the bike and down the road. I bounced along and got scraped up and thought I might have broken my elbow and or hip. My butt is sore as can be and I also snapped my neck/neck head into the pavement. If I didnt have a helmet on I would have been toast. I was taken to the H xrayed and a CT test was given , nothing was found to be broken. I was given some painkillers, muscle relaxants and sent home with instructions to take it easy for a few weeks.
The driver was in front of me, slowed and moved to the right to take a diagonal parking spot and just never saw me. Luckily at the sound of the impact, my screaming, and smacking his car he pulled away. I went down hard, ended up in a semi fetal postion, had a loss of breath so when he came running up to me he was very apologetic , I think he thought he might have killed me. He called 911, held my head still and was very nice about the incident.
One funny thing, at the H in the trauma center, they didnt know how to unlock the lock on my Sidis. I was immobile and couldnt look down , and was trying to give instructions w/o looking . All that ended up happening was the shoes got tighter and tighter !They were about ready to cut the shoes off , when, luckily someone came along who knew how to loosen them or it would have been another $350 down the drain. Moral, memorize instructions about unlocking the top strap !
