Ashland, OR...what's it like there in February?

Taking a month off and coming down to the United Bicycle Institute in Ashland for 4 weeks.

What sorta weather should I plan on? Is there road-riding year 'round there? I'm guessing all the mountain biking trails are covered in snow.

Would my CX bike be the best bet? Not really sure what to expect...road conditions, weather, etc.

    Thanks!

In February, you can expect wet, cold, icy and foggy weather. Sometimes, there will be snow, with enough idiots trying to drive in it to make you wish you were at Dutch Harbor, skinny dipping. Usable sunlight will appear a bit after to 7am, and will be gone before 5pm. The temperature will be from the upper 20's at night, to the low 40's during the day.

You can skinny dip in Dutch Harbor in February?

This will be my first full winter here, we didn't move here until March. But it was sunny and in the mid 60's when we got here. When I came to interview in Jan/Feb it was a lot nicer here than back in DC. For damn sure. I'll take foggy down here in the valley instead of dealing with shoveling 40" of snow...
    I ride. You should too.

Ashland is COLD in winter, if it rains, expect black ice the next day. Winds in winter tend to come from the east... 30+mph on Siskiyou Blvd is easy in those cases (presuming that you're going east). Basically, be prepared for the worst, hope for the best.

If you plan on spending ANY time off road, make sure that you have thorn resistant tires with slimed tubes as the goatheads are a major PITA!!!

For the record, I'm from Ashland, graduated from AHS, and attended SOSC (now SOU).
