Cedar Park - Lakeline Blvd North of Cypress Creek

Hello all! This is my first post to the forums as I only just found them. I have recently started commuting 2 or 3 days a week from my house in North Cedar Park to the 183 and McNeil area.

I have little issues on the way to work in the morning. I have a few more issues on the way back home during the evening. Most of the trouble revolves around Lakeline Blvd.

There is a very narrow shoulder going north and the drainage gutters are downright deadly if you ride too close to the curb. I haven't done much riding like this in the past and so I'm a little tentative when it comes to owning the lane.

I was wondering if any other riders in the area are familiar with the road and have any suggestions? Do you take up all of the right lane when you ride on Lakeline Blvd north of Cypress Creek? Do you stay close to the curb and just let traffic pass you as it may?

I don't like riding on the sidewalks, though they are there. I'm not a fan of the bump bump bump from the gaps in the concrete slabs.

I seem to get yelled at the most while on Lakeline as well, but there isn't much I can do about that.

If anyone has a better route for me to take from Anderson Mill area to New Hope in Cedar Park, I'm all ears. Thanks for the help and I look forward to being part of this community.

Get on the sidewalk at that point! No way would I ride in the traffic without a bike lane at rush hour. If you treasure your life get on the sidewalk, if you don't stay in the traffic.

I love cycling but it's not worth that kind of a risk.

Take the lane. I have over 21,000 miles on my bike. Nearly all of them in rush hour, on the streets of Dallas.

Thanks for the comments. I've been toying with the idea of taking old 183 instead as there is a sufficiently large shoulder there to make it pretty comfortable. The only issue there of course is the large amounts of traffic. What I wouldn't give for a road with a bike lane going north.

I echo this sentiment. I've never ridden down Lakeline, but I've driven down it. There are lots of twists and turns and people drive way too fast. Actually someone posted earlier this year about his wife getting hit on this road: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ng-on-Lakeline

Can you get to Parmer? It might be a little out of the way, but it's a great road for north/south travel by bike, and McNeil has bike lanes part of the way from Parmer to 183.

Totally agree with this. If Parmer is too far out of the way, take the sidewalk. Not sure how far north you are heading, but another option might be Cluck Creek and wind through the neighborhood streets. Sadly, safe bike routes going North/South are non-existent on the west side of town.
