    CT Bike Routes: maps and GPS tracks

    CTBikeRoutes.org has over 500 suggested rides in CT, fully supported by cue sheets and route description. There is work in progress to translate all these routes onto maps and and GPS files. The latest is at

    One fifth of the way through with 100 routes mapped out of 500.

    I have made notes of a few routes to try. This is strictly based on studying the map and the features along the route.

    Completed mapping of all routes in South Central CT region. There are now 188 maps out of 500.

    A few more routes to note are:

    Not Just Essex, 62.6km: tour of Essex and surrounding towns
    SCCC's Shoreline, 16.8km: short ride along the coast suitable for young riders
    Pounding Powder Hill, 55.9km: tour of Middletown hills
    Sonya's Gillette Castle Gallop, 73.2km: Gillette Castle and views of the Connecticut River
    The Chester to Marlborough Hilly Ride to Hell, 73.4km: Comstock covered bridge, Bull Hill, and Pocotopaug Lake

    Completed mapping of all routes in Northeast CT region. There are now 202 maps out of 500.

    A few more routes to note are:

    Mansfield Hollow-UConn-Chaplin, 52.6km: hills, more hills, and a climb to the UConn campus
    Roseland's Trail, 68.8km: Quiet Corner tour of orchards, a winery, forests, lakes, historic structures & districts
    Woodstock - Pomfret - Putnam, 63.8km: Bucolic Quiet Corner scenery near Woodstock

    Just finished mapping all the routes for the northwest region. Almost all 40 will be fun to rides. They all seem to offer beautiful scenery, variety of terrain, and country roads.

    There are now 237 of 500 routes.

    Try contacting my club http://threadcitycyclers.com/ for really nice routes. I also have a few mapped out that start in Lebanon, CT and go to places like The Devil's Hopyard. Lebanon has more cows than people so cars are not a major issue. BTW, the guy to talk to is Ron Manizza. He used to own Rainbow Cycle in Willimantic and now reps for LG, Speedplay, etc. He knows eastern CT better than anyone I know.

    The maps are now complete for all routes on CTBikeRoutes.org.

    Some more favorite routes that I look interesting to try are:

    North Stonington Cider Mill, 47.3km: Stonington, Mystic, and North Stonington
    Circumnavigate the Giant, 50.6km: around Sleeping Giant park
    Trumbull-Monroe Backroads Tour, 49.6km
    Aspetuck Saugatuck Reservoir, 49.2km
    The Long Island Wineries, 75.0km: take the ferry from New London for a flat tour on LI.
    Renate's Barn Island, 51.3km: coastal tour
    Best of the Shoreline, 97.2: ultimate tour of southeast CT shoreline
