Post Toronto - Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer - New Rider

I've just signed up for the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer - Toronto in June of 2012.

It's a 2-day, 200km ride collecting funds for the Campbell Family Institute at the Princess Margaret Hospital. Those will be a long couple of rides but I know I can work my way up to that mileage if I train right!

Each rider has to raise a minimum of $2,500.00 which seems a little daunting at the moment!

For me, the loss of my mother in 1981, when I was two years old is the biggest motivation I have for signing up. I will be riding in her memory. We've all been touched in some way by cancer, please help if you can.

Any donations of any amount are greatly appreciated!

My personal page for online donations is:
    http://www.conquercancer.ca/site/TR/...nal&fr_id=1401

    Thanks for your time!
    Scott

    Hey Scott,

I am from Burlington and I am riding this year also. I volunteered at the start last year and just HAD to register this year. I lost my dad, as well as my grandfather, 3 uncles, my aunt and one of my best friends to cancer. I feel your pain. I will send a donation along to you as soon as some of these holiday bills get cleared up. I will also begin hitting up my friends and family again

Good luck and maybe I will see you at rhe ride.

    Cheers,

    Brian J.

Hey, I'm doing the Vancouver version. Yours is only 200km? LUCKY DUCK - ours is 250! How far along are you in fundraising? I've managed to get $1200 so far, but I'm still halfway to the $2500 I need to ride, and I'm running out of sponsors and out of time. I'm worried I won't be able to make it.

Very cool that you're in the Vancouver ride volcano! Good luck with the rest of the fundraising! There was a 160km/day option (the Challenge route?) but I haven't got my mileage that high yet so opted to start with the 100/day (I think ~105, but not sure).

I'm very lucky to have reached my fundraising goal already!!! Thanks to generous family, friends & co-workers it all went well. I was planning to canvas my rural neighborhood and basically the entire township if necessary but it didn't come to that.

My 94 year-old grandmother pitched in (as she always does in every way she can) and reached out to family and friends-of-the-family that I hardly know but that she keeps in touch with, she brought in over $1000.00 and helped me reach goal by the end of February!

Don't feel bad about being half-way!! I have a couple of friends in the Toronto ride who haven't raised a single $ yet (online at least).

    Cheers and good luck!

Any chance you have teamates that have made their minimum who can redirect additional donations to you? My team set up a couple of bikes on trainers outside a grocery store while a couple others enthusistically begged from passers by. That alone raised over 800/day. Door to door is a pain but it can raise funds pretty quickly as well.

Good luck. I did 3 rides in Toronto and two in Vancouver and am at the tapped out stage for funding and enthusiasm. Ride safe!
