deffinitly, you are already there!
well so much for GMRstayed in bed too long then went for a mountain bike ride in the wind. I will consider that my one laspe on account of my birthday.
Stay in bed another 4 weeks so I can catch up to you.
We rode the OCW Century on Sat. with Chuck Bramwell's group. Good pace, 104 miles with 7,608 feet of climbing.
Here's the Garmin data: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/154610293
That's a brutal climb up to Cogswell dam . . . good practice for Oak Glen!
Stopped at mile 85 to refuel at Donut Man in Glendora:

I think I'm doing Mulholland but not the other two, I've done Heartbreak and I'm not really a fan. Breathless doesn't seem too enticing either. I'm all for some training rides, weekend or weekday. I may also do L'Etape, not sure if I want to pay $120 though.
Okay... need some advise. I am few miles away from Alessandro Blvd and 215 freeway. I think I can jump start from jack rabbit trail and climb up for training without wasting time... There are couple of stretches I am not quite certain how to progress which is where Jack Rabbit trail meets 60... is there some shoulder to ride safely? What are some recommendations? I think I might want to try to Angelus Oak and come back down the same way and do double pass on Jack Rabbit back to home to get some idea on this climb. Probably will start around 6AM Saturday from home. Is there place to get some water on the way short of going to forest fall? (I've driven this places before from 10 freeway while back)
Didn't realize my home was so close from Jack Rabbit trail...
Thank you!
Jack Rabbit is not that tuff or long (I thought) and it is the first climb. I would focus on Oak Glen and Hwy 38. As for the route, just google ridewithgps and Breathless Agony and you ill see the route we followed. We are on a busy highway for a bit.
It's pretty easy really bored117,
At the end of Jack Rabbit you turn right onto the shoulder of the 60, there's plenty of room, no worries. Then you take the Beaumont exit (6th street I think) and you can hook up (left turn, at traffic signal, don't remember the name of the road, sorry) to the road that takes you to Oak Glenn.
Both Oak Glenn and Jack Rabbit are good to practice on; Oak Glenn for Resource Management and Jack Rabbit for cyclo-cross-like technique.
Once you get on 38, Damnation Alley is the worst bit; salvation awaits (kind of) at the big left U-Turn at the exit to Forest Falls. Nice climbing ride from there to Angelus Oaks. You can have lunch at the cafe at Angelus Oaks before heading back down. Good training ride for BA!

Thank you guys! Will definitely give it a go SaturdayJust gotta wake up early enough to kick myself to come back home before lunch time

Well with everyone doing Solvang this weekend, I fell I should do mine own century. This is what I plan on riding. Hopefully the winds die down by teh time i get back to Lytle Creek.

It turns out to be 99 miles and 8500 ft. Wish me luck, I dont do too many self supported centuries.
Good Luck Lesper4!
Looks like a good century (though the Strava says less than a century, but whatever) and you should be able to restock with food and water at several points along the way. I'll be riding Solvang, which will be fun for me since I've had to miss it due to the Taiwan Bicycle Show, where I usually have to work! This year I got out of it!

Urghh... that training ride turned into almost century.
In short: 96.16 miles. Moving time 6H54M.
Total Ascent: 9642ft.
Started from home, Alessandro west of 215... and joined in at the course for BA (the Redlands + Alessandro). Commenced on the BA course. Right BEFORE Jack Rabbit Trail... had a flat. Wasted 30 minutes trying to figure out what went wrong, etc. I am getting CO2 cartridge next time. Can't say I enjoyed Jack Rabbit Trail. Way too slow going since I was a bit leery after the puncture. Highway 60 was just fine! I commute on west portion of Alessandro where people drive beyond 50mph with much smaller shoulder space for me every day going much slower as it is 5-6% uphill for 3 miles.
Oak Glen was interesting. In fact, I think the local 9-11% hill repeat actually made me able to get through this tedious climb. I will be installing 11-32 before next trial on this. No need to torture my knee. Stopped by a Apple Cider store on the way down... got couple of bottled waters, cup of Apple Cider, he even gave me sample of Almond butter to boost my energy up! I will be stopping by there againAlmost had a spill on the way down where there were loose debris on corner with speed limit of 25mph. I took extra caution on corners after that.
Going up the 38 wasn't bad at all... it just felt like it kept going on... and on... and on... I started running out of time (as I had to get back to home). Made it to Angelus Oaks sign and turned around... Was a blast coming down.
All my worries about crazy drivers, etc were for naught... until I got to Redlands! Almost got wiped by a lady who made left turn from my left! (no it wasn't 4 way stop...)
Wen to Sylvan Park, went to Redlands, to Alessandro... and back to home... Funny thing was... the small hill on Redlands was the worst for me. I ran out of water and just had to struggle it when my power output just wouldn't go over 80%. I will have to work on eating/drinking strategy better.
Overall, it just was blast! My leg is a little stiff right now and left Achilles tendon feels a little sore. Time to hit the roller!
Oh, and THANK YOU for all the awesome suggestions here guysI just might be able to get all KoM done if I train properly and rest properly for next 4 weeks!
You should do fine. I will post up my ride info later.
I agree with Lesper4,
You'll do fine on Breathless Agony. Going up Hwy 39 is called Damnation Alley for a reason . . . and you discovered the reason! It feels like an endless pergatory and you don't really feel like you're making progress, even though you are.
Angelus Oaks is a mile or so beyond that sign where you turned around. The Summit at Onyx is 20 mi. further on. No worries, you'll make it!

Here was my ride http://app.strava.com/rides/5037851 I was bonking at the top of the last climb, so I came up a few miles short. But all things considering I feel good. Snowboarding in mammoth next weekend with a storm coming in so now plans yet except for a mtn bike ride. I think the following weekend maye be up baldy up gmr
Excellent ride Lesper4,
Great training for BA, so I'm sure you'll have no problem on the day of the event. We have a group going up GMR/GRR next Saturday and you'd be welcome to join us. We should be departing from Boulder Springs at 8:00AM. Should be fun!
Rick / OCRR
Saturday is Mammoth
Sunday I hope to ride to Joe Elliot, 4000ft 25 miles (might be snow covered?)
March 2th4 http://ridewithgps.com/routes/377225 (this is also the weekend of the Redlands Classic)
That will be a good ride! Next year I want to ride my first double.
Next Sturday I'm going out to Redlands for the weekend of racing at the Redlands Classic. We are also doing a ride leaving from Sylvan Park that does most of the BA route. From Redlands we take San Timoteo to Beaumont and join the BA course there going through Oak Glen and over to the 38 and on up to at least Angelus Oaks. http://www.redlandsclassic.com/
