    Straightening out.....

I'm scheduled for bilateral knee replacement in late January. If all goes well I should be back riding outside in April or May. At the moment I'm in so much discomfort that I can barely walk or drive my car, let alone ride my bikes.

One side effect of replacing the diseased knees is that I'll have straight legs and an improved posture. Hard to imagine I'll no longer look like this:

Ha Ha! I hope I'm not as turned out as that on the right. I should have both feet facing forward. :-)

Surgery was rescheduled for March 8 after they found an abscess near my sinuses. I had dental surgery last week, losing the abscess, a second one not seen on the x-ray, and a tooth.

The changes my TKR made to me, combined with 30+ years of walking *wrong* - I ended up being told to walk backwards 100yds daily, and it took about 2 months of doing so to relearn to walk in a more correct manner. It sounded weird to me, but they taught me that most people do not walk backwards much as a rule, so it is easier to unteach bad habits by doing so - for me it helped greatly.

I know you might be thinking of the surgery as *THE* change, but the real change comes after, as you relearn walking, posture, and so on. I am excited for you, and know that you have the grit to make the most of these changes~!

Oh, I know I have many changes coming, and I'll need to work hard at them. But the rewards will be so sweet.....

Well, Neil posted a short note on FaceBook a few hours ago. Something about pain, so I assume he's out of surgery??

    Yes.

Surgery replaced the knees, straightened them, made me three inches taller, leveled my hips and shoulders.....

Looking in the mirror, I see my shoulders and hips level, and nothing odd about my legs aside from a slight drag of my right foot (residual nerve damage from making the crooked straight.) And yes, multiple people confirm I'm taller, and 3 inches is the agreed on figure.

Probably in about 3 months. However, since I'm taller my bikes might be too small for me.

Keep good thoughts for Neil, he appears to have a blood clot, and is back in hospital for now rather than Rehab.

Back home. Home bound for the next six weeks, but so far all looks good.
