    2012 Redbud Ride

We would like to invite all of our cycling friends to join us for the 2012 Redbud Ride.

On-line registration for the 2012 Redbud Ride is open, and as our Christmas gift to you we are offering an extra $5 off the on-line registration fee throughout the Holiday season. The 2012 Redbud Ride will take place in London, Kentucky on April 21. You can register by going to www.redbudride.com. This year, our friends in nearby Barbourville, Kentucky, will present the Redbud Warm-Up on Friday, April 20, at 1:00 p.m. The average temperature for April 21 in London is a perfect 70 degrees.

The Redbud Ride was chosen by Active.com as "The Best Century Ride in America" and was chosen by Tour Southern and Eastern Kentucky as the "Best Sporting Event" in their 47 county service area.

Merry Christmas and we'll see you on April 21.

What is the 70 miler like? Do you have a ft./mile estimate?

Anything for my wife to do in London?

Dudelsack. The Green Route (69 miles) is actually my favorite route on the Redbud Ride. It is extremely scenic. You will have lots of short, but occasionally steep hills, mixed with flats and little rollers. The longest hills is not more than a quarter mile long. The first steep climb is about 12 miles into the ride. The signature climb is called Tussey Hill. Tussey Hill is a 0.25 mile at about 16% grade, followed by a 0.1 mile flat to recover. After the short recovery you will climb 0.1 mile at a whopping 20% grade. Tussey Hill will be at about 31 miles. Tussey will be your last major climb. However, you will have lots of rolling hills after this. You will have at least 3 rest stops (maybe 4 or 5), including the lunch stop. The Redbud Ride rest stops are absolutely the best and most fun rest stops in the cycling world. Below is a link to the map to the Green Route:

As you may know, mapmyride always underestimates the feet of vertical climb. The Green Route will actually have between 4,000 and 4,500 feet of climb.

There will be lots of things for your spouse to do while you are riding. I don't know exactly what's planned this year but in the previous two years there has been art shows, bluegrass music, Barbecue, etc..

Last year the Redbud Ride had 669 cyclists from 22 states. I predict we will have about 1,000 cyclists this year.

I'll check my schedule. Sounds like a good one. I'm in Louisville, not too far away.

We have tons of cyclists from Louisville participate each year. The Louisville Bicycle Club, Team Bag Balm, and the Mad Pups all have a big presence at the Redbud Ride. I hope you can make it.

I'll have to sign up late just in case I have soccer commitments (I coach several teams). Looking forward to it.

I'll be there for the 100 miler. Not done one in many years. What's that route like as far as climbs?

We can't wait to see you at the RBR Gregory. We have a ton of people from Knoxville and Maryville coming up this year. The 100 mile "Big Red" route is considered hilly. The hills are very short but there are lots of them and some are steep. However, we have softened the route somewhat this year by taking out one major climb and about 10 miles of smaller hills in favor of about 5 miles of pancake level flat and 5 miles of gentle rollers.
