Interested in visiting parts of Georgia soon. Is the Athens-North Oconee River Greenway safe? Any thoughts or experiences? Also for info and photos on Florida paved trails visit my website: http://www.trailviewmount.com

Lol, never even heard of it.
So far, all of the PATH sites I have been on are wonderful. IDK if this is one as well, but it seems most of the new MUP's we get are....some of them go through bad areas, but there have been very few incidents occur.

I biked this greenway a few years ago and may mis-remember. There may also have been additions and improvements since then.
From the out of town end it starts at the Sandy Creek Park/ Nature Center. Good parking there and restrooms. It starts out as wide paved trail along Creek and river bottomlands. It then does a piece on residential neighborhood streets. I think there is a designated bike lane on those streets. It gets onto a wide side walk segment that parallels busier streets with a least one major traffic light intersection. It the goes back into park land and ends at a small park on the edge of downtown Athens. I think the whole route is 4 to 5 miles. Double for the round trip. I seem to remember a restaurant next to the park at the downtown end.
The Athens-North Oconee River Greenway runs from Dudley Park to just south of Sandy Creek Nature Center. 3.5 miles long. Great info here sedges. Since I'm from Sarasota and plan on driving through Georgia in 2012, I don't want to visit and park at a trailhead that's in a bad section of town. Thanks for seeing.
There is really no bad section of town in Athens. Its just easier to park at the Sandy Creek end. Its a pleasant, but short, round trip.
Thanks for all the help and the info here. I wanted to start at Dudley Park to get photos of the historic Murmur Bridge close by. The bridge is my main reason for riding the trail. I'll have a long drive from Sarasota so I don't want to miss anything good. Take care.
