I've been looking at the recumbent quadracycles that are produced by Rhoadescar. Specifically the 4W1P model, as I am seriously considering getting one at some point. While my road bike is fine for getting around town, I'd like to go a little further afield and feel that this particular make/model would best suit my needs.
by "a little further afield" I'm guessing, what, touring?? Just looking briefly, you probably want to go with the 42 gear option and the dual brakes... how heavy is that quad??? Looks interesting, it may meet your needs. Utah Trikes has several versions of quad's - http://www.utahtrikes.com/RECENTTRIK...Snow_Quad.html that are very rugged and can handle pretty much anything you can throw at them....just a suggestion.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the 'strong points' are for a quad. The Rhodes is made of mild steel, and is pretty clunky from everything I've read. I suppose it'd be a good grocery-getter for a couple living in a city. BikeForest has pics and a video or two of their 'pimped-out' Rhodes car:
Might work for winter riding. I would NOT want one for longer touring.
Several years ago I bought one second hand...and yes it was heavy and slow...so maybe good enough for a short errand kind of thing.. Unless they have changed a few things I would wnat to "try before I buy".
IF I was to get one, it would have 7 gears, thorn proof tubes, plus tire inserts. It would also have fenders and probably a real seat, rather than the plastic one. I will have a look at the site you linked though, since I have yet to make a decision.Originally Posted by pick

The Terracycle quad looks wonderful. Going back to one of the original car designs at the turn of the 20th century, only updated materials and without the engine.

If the quad is the whole point and not necessarily the largeness of the Rhodes, I think Utah Trikes sells a kit from Raptobike which converts a RWD to two wheels, and if it's on a tadpole trike it makes for a quad.
