I need help (Catrike Pocket) (Burley Canto)

I'm going to look at a Burley Canto in the morning, and as the seller and I were talking he mentioned that he had a Catrike Pocket he was going to sell.

I'm 5' 10" and he said the trike may be too small does anyone know? I have never been on a bent or a trike so I have no idea what I'm looking for, I need help LOL.

I will be mostly riding on the road, and feel I, well my wife said I'll get killed on the trike

I met a young woman who was riding a used Catrike Pocket this past Spring. She absolutely loved it and had traveled all the way to southern California to get it. I can't remember exactly how tall she is though. You can find more about the specs on www.catrike.com or go to the buyer's guide on www.bentrideronline.com for more information. Also try going to the catrike user's forum. I don't own a Catrike so I don't have a link for it. The Catrike Pocket is more compact than the other models that Catrike sells. If you have a hefty posterior, the seat may not fit. Take it for a ride and them make a judgement. I have yet to come across a Catrike owner who had regrets about buying one because of quality or handling. They have some pretty enthusiastic owners.


Tell your wife to chill out about your early demise. She's not going to get to cash in your life insurance policy quite yet. There are lots of us trike riders who have logged many thousands of miles on one in an urban setting without a single mishap. You are much more likely to be seen than on a conventional bike because of the unusual shape. You really don't require any more room than a regular bike needs. I always ride with a standard bike flag, wear bright clothing, and wear a helmet for safety. I am extra cautious while riding in parking lots and do not pass cars waiting to turn right at a traffic light and then expect them to see me along side them. Those are pretty much the same things you should do on a regular bike.

You're probably too big. Catrike suggests that the Pocket is for folks no bigger than 5'-8", I believe.

About trikes and getting killed? MUPs (Multi Use Paths) are the ticket~! No cars to even deal with. Go to www.traillink.com and search around your area, you may be surprised at how many MUPS are within 20-30 minutes of your home. Both paved, and unpaved.

Here in Ohio, we have the Ohio & Erie Towpath trail that is some 90 miles long, about 75% crushed limestone, and the rest is paved. As it is a "rail trail", it is mostly very flat too. Other than in my neighborhood, most all of my riding is on various MUPs.

If you are taller than 5 ft. 8-in. too much weight will be on the front wheels, making it more likely to flip under hard braking. Try the Trail, it is an awesome bike at a reasonable price. Now it even has an adjustable seat which is very nice.
