Detroit Bike Map and Parking

I've been updating the Google Maps Bicycle layer to show all the trails and bike lanes in the city of Detroit. I've also documented 540 bike racks with photos and locations. All of this information is combined on this Detroit bike map.

If you know of any Detroit bike racks that are not included, let me know. There are more racks to be added, including 3 more in the Villages, 20-30 more in SW Detroit. Even still, this is a good start.

Yes. I'm not sure where this base data came from but it needs to be updated.

BTW, here's Google's explanation:

Bicycle suitability
Select the bicycle suitability to indicate the suitability of a road segment for bicycle use. This helps to generate good biking directions and promote biking as a means of transportation.

Preferred: The road is suitable for cycling and can be used for biking directions.

Avoid: Not preferred for cycling; the road may still be used for biking directions

You can find all roads that are preferred or avoided for bicycling using Advanced Search.

Nice work. Do you ride with any groups in Detroit? I ride with the BTT guys when I can get out there early Saturday AM.

Sad to say, I don't. I did ride with them once some years ago. I avoid driving to go ride -- and it's tough for me to get up before 5am for the long bike commute.

However, it's a great ride and I recommend it to others.
