Ive been riding this winter. My last ride was Sunday. 12 degrees and windy.
I'll start at the bottom. feet - Wool sock with gore-tex oversocks. MTB shoe because it is larger thatn my road bike shoes. legs- Padded cycling tights, cabelas microfleece wader liners and running tights. torso - A no name (medium weight) nmostiure wicking mock turtleneck, microfleece shirt and a fleece lined windbreaker. hands - Cabelas smowmobile cloves head head microfleece balaclave, helmet & sunglasses. My lips and nose are exposed so I put chapstick on both. 12 degrees and I was hot!!! Next time, I will wear no mock turtleneck. Just a thin coolmax shirt.
I keep a log with tempatures.....this way I know what to wear. Try it (if you haven't yet). It beats the trainer!!
I usually ride 5 nights a week all through the winter,,but I hurt my knee,.,,I dress for how cold it is,,you dont want to be sweating..I dont go out and buy 500 dollars worth of clothing. When real cold I wear fleece lined bluejeans
over long under wear,,on top i wear a few layers,,then a jacket. I wear a wool hat,, usually nothing over my face but put some vasiline on my face. I wear 2 layes of socks in a lined light weight boot.
