Bike computer/map options for ipod touch users

I'm very interested in the garmin GPS watches/sat nav devices, but all of them are out of my price range. Are there any ipod touch friendly options for using on a bike? So far I've managed to find the Magellan toughcase (too expensive, and no bike mount), the Dual electronics GPS cradle (can't find for sale in the UK, a little pricey and no bike mount), and the tom tom car kit (obviously not designed for use on a bike, but is the cheapest unit with GPS receiver. I envisioned a little device that I could just plug into my ipod and I'd be away.

I'd be interested to hear from people who are running their ipods on their bikes

I use my iPhone and I found a mount on eBay for around $5. It has worked great for over 8 months but I do worry that in the event of an accident it doesn't offer much protection. It's not weather resistant either. But it does the job and I added two rubber bands to make sure it's not going anywhere. For Apps I use here in the US Cyclemeter, Mapmyride, and I just downloaded Bikebrain.

Hope that helps.

Yeah wish I had an iPhone, but unfortunately the iPod touch doesn't have 3G or GPS. The only product that I've found that is available in the UK is the Bad Elf GPS adapter, but at £100 in the UK rather than $100 in the US it seems over priced for what it is.

The Dual GPS cradle seems like the best option, but is not available in the UK!

Have you ever tried Endomondo. If not I strongly recommend this app. I also keep my phone in a Otter Defender box and I jerry rigged an old broken holster to mount on my handle barsmade for the otter box.

Hey Thanks! I just downloaded Endomondo and will give it a shot on my next ride. It looks very nice. The Otter Box is a good idea.
