To the rider on SB Holder St.in Buena Park at 9:00 AM on Tues, 1/24/2012

You were wearing a dayglo yellow/green windbreaker and you seemed to be zipping along pretty well.

The stop sign at Holder St. and Myra Ave. that you blew through while southbound on Holder isn't optional. Bicycle or car doesn't matter - we all have to stop. My hope is that you don't get hurt or killed, because that is a nasty intersection. On your side is that it's marginally less dangerous at rush hour.

If you need a reminder, the intersection is here.

There was a lot of stop & go southbound traffic and it's possible that you didn't even see the westbound cross traffic (me) as you passed cars approaching the intersection. I certainly couldn't see you because you were behind that line of stop & go cars and outside of my range of normal concern. If you were paying any attention as you blew across Myra, you'd have seen the back end of my old pickup about 10 feet to your right. All I saw in my mirror was a flash of yellow/green and a head down.

I've been driving a LONG time and I try to give bicyclists every break I can and as much room as is practical. Things like this make it really hard. Maybe I should just consider myself lucky that you didn't ruin my day as you proved Darwin was right.

Been a long time since I posted here, but...

Now, back to our regularly scheduled flame throwing.

Do you mean do drivers come on here and post about incidents? I don't know bc I'm too new, but I have seen drivers or friends of drivers come here to defend themselves or their friends, neighborhood, etc., when it comes to an accident. I found one or two threads that made me sick over this bc I know some stuff other members don't. Patience in due time for now.

At least the guy seems like he's ultimately concerned for human life. +1 for that.

Meh.. drivers do indeed do that here, but I don't think that's what this is.. I had a motorcyclist almost kill himself on the side of my car once, I promptly ended up on failbook ranting to him even though I knew he'd never see it, it did make me feel slightly better about having someone almost injure themselves on my vehicle.

Meh? I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't saying this guy was being like the other people I mentioned.

Now if you meant "meh" to him caring about someone's safety...yeah, I don't know. Maybe he was ranting to rant. Did u mean Facebook? Like the reference...you should keep it.

The OP rant didn't come across to me as compassionate for a cyclist's safety but more just a ridiculous vent. People, doing a endless multitude of activities, will invariably do something stupid. Move on. Let it go.

I wonder which is more indicative that the post content is not to be taken seriously?

Can I earn extra credit for making an indirect reference to my count in one of my posts and can I transfer my 1000 posts on another forum if it's topic related? Will you approve of me then oh great chicken head? (:

As you've deftly illustrated more than 10K times, quantity =/= quality.

Pointless to preach to the choir about the knot in your panties, placed there by someone who knew perfectly well that what they were doing is illegal/dangerous/foolish. Keenly pointless when one considers how slim the odds are that the illegal/dangerous/foolish rider is even a participant in this forum.
Just because no one else knows it's a race, that still doesn't mean I'm not winning.

No. And why do you care what I think? No one else around here does. Besides, I don't even live in SoCal. (I did back in the 80s, though.)

I'm confused. You didn't see this rider, until he zoomed behind you in a blur by 10ft. However, you know they blew the stop sign? And you saw him behind you, so what is the issue?

Actually, I do ride some. Not a lot and definitely not as much as I should, but I do ride.

And yes, it was a bit of a rant, really aimed at the rider in question, hoping that he might just see it. FWIW, I do hope that Darwin doesn't catch up with him.

Am I preaching to the choir in here? Of course! I knew it when I posted and you've kept my memory refreshed.

Are there ever times that you check your mirrors just because? Not really a reason, but you just look to see what might be there? This was one of those times. I can't explain why I looked; just that I did.

Remember - I couldn't see the rider because he was out of my field of concern and my viewwas blocked by the line of cars. As far as I could tell, I had a clear intersection to enter and the other cars were actually behaving. Perhaps he saw me and judged that there was no likely collision. The idea that he was out of my field of concern might seem confusing, and for that I'm sorry. OTOH, if he was zipping along at a good clip, he could have been 2, 3, maybe even 4 car lengths away from the intersection at the time I committed to enter it. By that time, my concern is to simply clear the intersection.

As to the distance; it could have been a bit more than 10 feet, but no more than 15. He was pretty close. The speed that the rider was carrying as he crossed my field of view was such that he couldn't have been stopped at the sign.

I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but just can't.
