Chainguard options for Xtracycle or longtail cargo bike???

I'm building up a new xtracycle and want to build it for all purposes and that includes just riding in whatever clothes I have on. I don't really want to have to strap on an ankle strap to keep my pants out of the chain ring. I got spoiled with my other bike that has a single chainring up front along with a bash guard and a full length chain guard. That bike was bought that way so I'm looking for ideas and pictures of people who set up something similarly on the xtracycle or any other longtail cargo bike for that matter. Thanks.

If you're running a triple front chainring, I think your only choice for an actual guard is the Hebie 391. Here's a review of it: http://utilitycyclist.blogspot.com/2...ss-market.html

As you can see, it's not the prettiest thing ever, but it'll keep your clothes out. The only other option is a bash guard like the Salsa Tooth Fairy. Depending on how many high curbs you'll be coming off of, it might not be a bad idea to have a bash ring given the length of an Xtracycle. Of course, the protection is not nearly as complete and you may end up getting caught anyway.

Or, you could look into a chain tube like many recumbent bikes and trikes run...they are dual purpose on 'bents: chainline management and to keep the tattoo's down to zero...

I am thinking of pickup up a ring-guard from this guy. Cheap, and looks like pretty good quality with lots of options on tooth-count and BCD:

SKS Chainboard will fit, I had one on my Dummy before. It was pretty fugly though and it the end I ut it on another bike with a single ring up front, 9 speed rear

I couldn't get a Chainboard to fit my Big Dummy. With a Mr. Whirly triple-cog and a Shimano XT derailleur, there was no way to clear both the crank and derailleur at the same time.

I guess I will have to go for a NuVinci...
