RIP '76 Fuji Feather track bike
Riding home from work today, on the greenway approaching a box culvert. The path hits the entrance at an angle, so I couldn't see a large rider inside coming out. We collided just outside the culvert.
And, I broke my pinky.
And, I broke my pinky.

Thanks Kurt, I'm mulling it over. Not sure if riding it again will be the same for me right now.

Wow. Glad you are ok and really sorry. What a beautiful bike. I live near Bilenky Cycle works if you decide to get it repaired. I would be happy to help in anyway I can.

Definitely worth trying to get back into shape. Early Fuji tracks are hard to come by, especially with that livery. Keep us posted.

You don't show the underside of the tubes. If there are no actual creases or wrinkles in the tubes, it is a candidate for straightening. Once they're creased, it becomes a lottery and you may want to consider replacement. Sorry to hear about your finger. Hopefully, it's on your less used hand.

Broken fingers suck. I've learned this three times. Or should I say, failed to learn this three times.
The frame doesn't look too bad, to me. Obviously the paint damage shoes it took a bad hit, but I don't see any sign of deflection; in other words, it may have sprung back to spec or nearly so. In other words, I agree with T-Mar. Try to get a drop of super glue (cyanoacrylate) under the paint and let capillary action move it around, then push the paint into place using a clear plastic bag. Experiment first; that kind of glue sticks to some kinds of plastic, not to others; use one it doesn't stick to. Stick the paint chips in place before you lose them, before dirt gets between them and the frame.

thanks. There is a small wrinkle on the underside of the top tube, and a larger wrinkle on the underside of the down tube. I think it's toast unless I opt for tube replacement, which seems unlikely right now.

incazzare.
Very generous of Kurt to offer to try and fix it. I'd take him up, why not?

My condolences, norskagent. I hope you are able to get it back on the road some way, someday. (FWIW, my Look does not have it's original downtube. I still enjoy it.)

I took it to the LBS (the same one that has all the cool bikes in the basement, Nishiki Superbe, etc.) They didn't think a simple straightening would work. One of the employees has built several frames now, so he may have a whack at it (tube replacement). I haven't talked to him yet. This option seems good, costs should be lowish since he is still in "apprentice" mode. As to my pinky, no riding for 3 months.

Sorry, man, that's just terrible. Heal and look forward to riding. At least this happened in winter, so you can be back riding in spring.

seeing what kind of misery that crash wrought on the frame, I'm happy you only broke your pinky! From what I gathered from others threads you rode this bike since new... Must be tough.

Not new, I 've had it for about 5 years now. The original owner bought it in japan, and rode it there. It's 54cm, but it had a 130mm stem when I got it. So I'm guessing he was a "big" american on a small Japanese frame!

Just got around to checking my helmet after the...incident. There is a pea sized dent in the top/side of it. Guess it's time for a new helmet.
