    Amgen Tour of California Info

Recieved this info in an email yesterday and thought I would pass it along. I have no connection to anyone or group involved in this. You will have to register for their site, but it is painless and worth it.

Important Announcement For All Cycling Enthusiasts

The Amgen Tour of California (ATOC) is returning to Mt Baldy on May 19th. The Stage 7 Finish Line will again be in the Ski Area parking lot.

A much larger attendance is expected for the race this year and therefore PARKING WILL BE AT A PREMIUM. Although not yet confirmed, parking passes may be required for vehicles on Mt Baldy Road.

To keep cycling enthusiasts informed, on behalf of the Mt Baldy Chamber of Commerce, we have created a waiting list. There's no charge to be on the waiting list and there's no obligation whatsoever to take a parking pass if indeed they are required. To join the waiting list please go to www.GetFreeTicketsHere.com/shop and click on the Amgen listing.

We will keep everybody on the list informed of all the progress on details for the Amgen Tour.

If you have friends or relatives that are cycling enthusiasts they will probably want to attend the Amgen Tour. Please forward this email to them so they can stay informed and not miss out on attending this major event.

So is that just for parking up by the ski lodge? What about all along the route? Last year when we went, they said parking permits were needed due to limited parking availability all along the route and we were able to park just past the shack w/o any problem or permits.

It seems a bit strange that any spectators would show up at all for something like this. Doesn't the whole peloton go by in a minute or so? Who's gonna drive all that way, deal with parking hassles, get out, wait for who knows how long, just to see some dudes ride their bikes past you for 60 seconds? You'd have to be nuts.

Yeah I see what you mean, I think I would rather follow them with my car instead.

That's why you pick a good spot. Like where they double back and come thru twice. But just the whole party atmosphere, everybody brought together by the love of cycling and watching the pros up close and personal. Totally worth it.

+1, Last year we parked near the base of GMR and biked up past the GMR/GRR fork. I carried a six pack of beer and a bunch of food. Big party up there and we saw the race go by twice. After the race came by the first time, we rode the rest of the way up to the village, and watched the race go by a second time. It was great fun.
