southern Vancouver Island area-how much salt deicing goo is put on your roads?

Hi, I live on the sunshine coast where the road crews love putting salt and deicing goo on the roads whether it is needed or not making a fine mess of bicycles. Am considering a move to Victoria regional area, but would like to know if it's a problem.
Of course it's necessary when there is ice, but around here, it is overkill and most cars do not have proper tires, so accidents need preventing.

Victoria normally doesn't even salt its roads until after there's snow on them.
