Lemond Alpe D' Huez aluminum

Hello everyone

I was wondering if anyone could enliten me about this bike I found on CL. I've been looking for a steel frame but was intrigued when I saw this bike, mainly as I was not aware that the Alpe D' Huez came in aluminum, I thought it was only steel. Anyway, was looking for general thoughts on this bike as I'm looking for a new build.

Hmmm, if it was me I'd keep looking for a steel frame. I am no expert but my steel 2000 LeMond Zurich just rides so smooth even on the rough rides I train on. I also have an aluminum Kona Jack the Snake. Nice ride but even with the 30mm tires at around 70 psi it is a harsher ride on the chipseal roads. Both bikes weigh within around a lb of each other.

If it fits and is otherwise OK, I'd buy it in a second. Aluminum rides more harshly only on the Web.

The AdH alternated between steel and aluminum a couple of times in the late 90's and early '00's. The 853 steel frame model for the AdH came along around '02/03 and before that, it was a either 525 or Chromoly. The one is the listing is from around '01 I believe. It originally came spec'd with 105 group and Rolf Vector wheels.

This particular bike could be a good deal if it is in great shape. Those wheels are worth $400 used (or more) alone if they are in decent condition. Definitely worth checking out the bike.
