I need a HRM. I want a transmitter that is versitile. I want to be able to use the chest strap with a downloaded iPhone App (haven't chosen one yet), as well as wrist monitor and the recievers that are on the cardio machines at the gym (I don't trust the hand-grab units in the gym).
Are all chest transmitters made equally? Will they all function with the various uses I described?
most phone apps that utitlize hrms uses bluetooth models and the standard hrm off the shelf is ant technology. The ant technology works fine in the gym but does not work with phone apps.. You may have to buy a hrm that works on the bike and gym and a different chest belt that works with your iphone app..
If you want to upgrade your iphone to a Sony Ericsson Android phone, then they have phones with the ANT+ interface, which will allow you to use the same chest strap with your phone, at the gym, with a wrist mounted receiver, or with a cycling specific computer such as the Garmin Edge.
