    hello!

hello everyone, my name is joe. i'm looking to buy a new bike in the next couple months. i'm in my 30's and just want to ride for my health mostly. i'm not unhealthy now, i just want to add biking to my activities.

i'm looking at something like the trek navigator 2.0. i stopped at a bike shop today and that was the bike this particular shop had that i liked the most. the only thing i didn't like was twist shifters. i see that the 3.0 has trigger shifters, but it also costs about $200 more. I was hoping to stay at or below $500. any suggestions other than the trek? the frame i fit best there was 18" (from seat post to crank center). thanks, glad to be here.

    Howdy Joe,

I first started used. Takes a while to get in shape and learn what type of riding you truly enjoy.
Something like this might be best.

10 Wheels, thanks for those links. i live about 2 hours south east of columbus though. i will look at used bikes closer to me, unfortunately they will probably all be wal-mart bikes around here. we have two nearby bike shops, but as far as used ads go, i only ever see people selling their rusted up mongoose mtn bikes.

    Welcome to BF Joe.

    A couple pieces of advice...

    1) Your first bike is the one for you to really figure out what you like and do not like. If you really wind up loving being on the bike, you'll eventually upgrade it. Get something you like and just get to riding.

    2) If you really dislike the gripshifters, don't get a bike with them as they will turn into an excuse not to ride as often or as far. I think that most people are better off buying their first bike from a shop and having that resource to go to with questions and for break in period adjustments provided that you feel comfortable with the guys at the shop.

    At any rate, welcome.
