Delata / Sacramento Area - Noob Ride Recommendaitons

Taking a novice adult rider for a ride in the Sacto area, talking about heading along the river into old Scramento and then back...we don't know what we are talking about.

He says he wants to do a 'Delta" ride.

If you know the area could you make a recommendation as the above, or a preferred ride in the area? I was thinking 30 miles tops.

    Thanks.

How about Hood Franklin down to Brannan Island on Steamboat Slough, back along 160? Is this a safe loop? Looks like a flat 50 miles.

Wish I could help you, but I haven't ridden in the Delta area in quite a long time and don't have any routes in that area. All my rides go the other way into the hills. If you wanted routes in El Dorado Hills or the Auburn area, I could suggest plenty!

Go to Mapmyride, punch in a town in the area in which you're interested in riding, set the mileage parameters and see what pops up. You can also look for the Delta Century course and see if you can incorporate part of this course; they might have a 100K option that would work

You would probably enjoy the American River Bike Trail a lot more than any delta roads. However, the weekends can be busy with joggers, etc. so keep that in mind.

That is a great ride. Unfortunately, the bridge just south of Courtland is closed for repainting so you can only cross the Sacramento at Freeport or Walnut Grove. I would suggest driving down to Clarksburg and parking there. You can string the Grand Island Loop from Island Hopping rides plus a detour onto County Road 114 through the Bogle vineyards (see http://app.strava.com/rides/2599904). That's a nice ride, fair to excellent pavement, and birds will outnumber cars by 10-1. :-)

This is a great ride and I would recommend it as well. Just watch out for the dogs, had a couple encounters with a few along this route. For another option, you can go North along the river up near the airport. Pretty quiet once you are out of the city limits. Park at Discovery Park and make a left on Garden Highway Road and you're good to go. The road is a two lane road for the most part with varying tarmac conditions. Cool little ride along the river. Couple of huge houses to gauk at. Note: This isn't necessarily the "Delta" as you are riding North of Sac. http://app.strava.com/rides/3512112

Thanks, that is essentially the route I was looking at, "Here's a Delta ride: http://centralcaliforniacycling.com/IH.html " but it appears to be no shoulder road riding which freaks out my riding partner. Maybe the ARBT is a better bet. Good to have options, thanks.
