SGRT Ride Report with HerbM, MarkAJ...2/18

71 miles with HerbM, MarkAJ, TomBunn, and their buddy Glen. Wow, nice day and ride. Encanto Park (Duarte) to Seal beach on the SGRT. Tom's plan was to do a portion of the ride after a vacation from the bike. So after he dropped off, the 4 of us headed to Seal Beach. MarkAJ and his buddy Glen are strong riders so I figured they'd leave HerbM and I behind but I was wrong. We all stuck together cause Herb is now a monster on the bike.

On the way to SB I figured Herb would get tire but he never did. As a matter of fact, after every underpass, the pace seemed to kick up into high gear. Didn't take long before I started feeling my legs burn and Herb was still hammering the pedals. the dude is not fading!

OK, Mark is strong and I expected that. Not to mention Herb told me of his cycling diet, losing weight while eating blueberries and alfalfa sprouts(exaggeration). But Herb, when did this dude turn into cycling monster on the bike? Ah OK, found out after the ride he has been doing plenty of miles. Believe me it shows. 69 miles into the ride, 2 miles before the end of the ride, I felt the major fade so I slowed to do my own thing and let the others go. That's when I saw Herb waiting for me on the side of the road. Wow, Herb is a monster now ha ha! I tried to come up with an excuse but couldn't find one. Only thing I could think of was that my bar tape is getting old and slipped a little bit at the bar end but nobody was buying it ha ha! Heb's just a monster!

I was on the SGRT today, but late. Did you get the headwinds going south? I had tail wind all the way up there, and then headwind back to the SART....ugh. No mugging attempts though, probably cause I am colored! HA!

Headwinds heading south, tailwind most of the way back.

Heading south, the headwind about a mile from the coast was STIFF!

There are interesting Landmarks on the SGRT. Did you see the dead body outline, Whittier Blvd.? What about "Team Manila" meeting place Liberty Park? And the short guy horse park after?

Ha ha, no! I guess I need to keep my eyes open a little more. I was too busy watching wheels and bumpy dark tunnel underpasses.

Think I passed you guys in the opposite direction around the Cerritos Auto Center vehicle lot, I was with my wife. Yeah, the wind toward the beach was a little rough. Looks like you guys had a good ride. Funny, my wife was saying that's the dude from the forums...
All right, you primitive screw-heads, listen up! See this? This... is my boomstick! It's a twelve-gauge, double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about $109.95. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt-blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right... shop smart: shop S-Mart... You got that?

Yup, that was me. I must have had my Flip out when you saw me, in order for her to recognize?

Yeah, I didn't quite make out what she said...with the wind and all. She wants to buy a Contour, heck, maybe we'll start a SGRT Thread 2012...
