Loan me a bike for SXSW?

    Hey all -

I'm heading to Austin for the SXSW interactive festival, as I'm part of a panel discussion on internet do-goodery (I'm Zach). I'll be in town March 10 - March 15, and would love to explore Austin exclusively by bike. While I *could* rent a bike from the Bicycle Sport Shop on S. Lamar. I think it'd be more fun to borrow a beater from an internet stranger - it would also fit in with the theme of my panel!

Anyhow... I know it's a shot in the dark, but if any of y'all have a spare bike that a roughly 6 foot tall dude could bum for a few days, please let me know!

    Thanks!

    - Zach

I'm in Dallas but I'll help... try Craigslist of course, also TXBRA.org in the "general" forum. Also facebook... the Austin bike clubs... and the Texas Bicycle Coalition, HQ in Austin and I bet they'd love some free tagalong PR from SXSW.

    Good luck.

Hey, Creakyknees. Thanks so much for these leads. I'll definitely look into them, and let you know if anything comes of it!

Just learned today about SXSW's first "bike share" program, but they're only available from 9am - 2pm each day so not super helpful in my case. Might give one of those folders a spin, though, just to try it out.

Thanks again, and if anyone else has ideas lemme know!

Hey Zach, I'm just bringing my bike with me, both to get around town since my hotel isn't on the shuttle line, and to get in a few training rides. I'm there from the 8th to the 13th.

Do you know about the Mobile Social rides? Look at http://bikehugger.com/mobile-socials for info.

Ah, thanks! But alas, that still won't help me get back to my hotel 8 miles north of downtown each night. It's all good though, because I did find a friend of a friend to loan me a much-nicer-than-necessary bike for the week. An older version of this. Should be fun. I've never ridden a modern steel bike.

bikeforums member dstrong kindly offered a bike up for loan, too. Thanks again for that offer, Don!

Did *not* know about those... but will definitely try to join one. Most likely the one Sunday evening. Thanks for heads up!
