    Anime Connoisuers

I haven't watched Anime in a very long time but recently wanted to see if there was anything similar to what I used to like. Jin Roh comes to mind as one of my favorites. I enjoyed the dark, gritty, realistic environment that defined Jin Roh. I also loved Ghost in the Shell for the same reasons. I got out of watching Anime because so much of it seemed to be bouncy, fantastical stories and I just couldn't get into that.

Any recommendations of movies I may like?

All the classics; Princess Mononoke; Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Metropolis etc. I wonder if anyone has seen Arriety yet? I am waiting for it to hit the local cheapo theater.

Much of my anime series comes from Sunday viewing on Adult Swim. I have always enjoyed Inuyasha, Bleach and Full-Metal Alchemist. There is a weird one right now don't know if I like - Dura-Dura. If you want ot see fantansical bouncy bouncy stuff - check out High School of the Dead. Japanese school girls with gigantic boobs! (what else!).

Saving Private Ryan. They take out lots of the anime in that movie.

I recently saw "Origin: Spirits of the Past" and thought that was pretty interesting.

When I lived in Okinawa (early 80s), I got pretty into it. Haven't really followed much in the last decade or so, though. I've seen a couple of...odd...anime vampire movies (don't ask me the titles) that were at least pretty entertaining.

Anything Studio Ghibli, doesn't matter if its a bouncy or fantastical story, you will love it. Hayao Miyazaki is the man!

My anime tastes are silly and ridiculous so my favourites are "Ranma 1/2" and "All purpose cat girl Nuku Nuku". Lots of boobies in both too.

First anime I saw was Akira, at its American premiere at the 1988 Comic-con.

Tokyo Godfathers is best at Christmas.

I like Cowboy Bebop, Nausicaa and FLCL.

Actually, if you are not restricted to movies, Death Note is a very intriguing series. The manga is a very good read as well.

I just finished a back to back 2 day marathon of Ghost in the Shell seasons 1 and 2 (still shaken up about the Tachikomas BTW). One thing I can tell, just like happened with Fullmetal Alchemist, is that the series are far better than the movies. I'm also looking for something along the lines of Ghost in the Shell, if I find anything good I'll report here.

PS: I'm gonna look into some international forums I used to visit since there's more chance they get stuff that never reaches American shores.

OK, I've found some posts from some old friends of mine who called themselves "Haruhiists" and used signatures/logos like these:

A'm bound to find good anime following this trail.

    Last Exile
ghost in the shell (TV series)
    Gunbuster/Diebuster
    Fate/Stay night
    Berserk
    Death Note
    Mushishi
    Code Geass
    Overman King Gainer
    Bokurano: Ours
Legend of Galactic Heroes (really long, but complete)
    Toward the Terra
Crest of the Stars (Banner of the Stars)

Some other stuff that leaves something to be desired
Steam boy (same people who did Akira)
Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise (somewhat of a flop, but GAINAX's early foray)
Food for thought: if you aren't dead by 2050, you and your entire family will be within a few years from starvation. Now that is a cruel gift to leave for your offspring. ;)

Initial D! Fast cars and anime, like Reese's peanut butter cups -- two great tastes that taste great together.

The first time I saw Akira was on a bootleg VHS tape that one of the guys in my college dorm got from his older brother. Japanese audio, no subs, but we got the idea. Fantastic.

I hope to see Arriety while it's out.
