Living in Chicago I frequent Wastyn cycles on Fullerton Ave. As you know they been around for over 100 years and are credited with the creation of the Schwinn Paramount. Well, being around for so long the know a lot of old timers. They recently got a set of Paramounts from a 6-day racer that the gentleman got from his team. These bikes were never used and probably won't, the Wastyns have plans to create an exhibition on the history of Chicago cycling. Anyway, here is the eye candy for Paramount lovers to drool over...

The two frames with the Olympic Rings seat tube decals and "Disneyland" down tube decals are from ~1958 - ~1963. They're made with Nervex Professional lugs and Reynolds 531 tubing.



The other two with the "Hat in the Ring" seat tube decal and single gold script "Schwinn Paramount" on top of the down tube appear to be post-war... late-forties to mid-fifties.

It's pretty rare to see Paramount track bikes with that much chrome, although there have been a number of them from the beginning and into the seventies with completely chromed frames and forks.

FWIW, the Olympic rings on the seat tube lasted through '72 it seems, with different downtube lettering.

Interesting, I don't see headbadges on the earlier ones. I have a 50s one, and it shows no sign of being drilled for a head badge.

Yes, it seems the switch to Campagnolo coincided with the switch to Nervex and Reynolds, at least as far as I've observed. Old and new. I doubt there was anything in between, unless someone ordered a new frame with the old Paramount parts for some reason. I wouldn't be surprized if those frames were only a season apart, but finished at the same time for a particular use.

I also wonder why there is no headbadge seen on the older ones and this is not the first time that a early paramount frame is without a headbadge.
