Did you take calcium supplements? If so, how much and did the quacks tell you this was the cause?

    Good luck with your surgery!

Were you on any medications beforehand that could have contributed? My BP medicine supposedly zaps calcium from my system (which appears to be the opposite problem - although it could just be pulling it out of where it's needed and depositing it where it's not).

I started taking Calcium in 2002 after a series of cycling crashes//non proff. with Naples,Velo.
I had no symptoms except an elevated HR after a hard ride. Some times elevated for 4 hrs.

I had a complete heart check/no angiogram/ with negative results in 2007. So last Wed after an Angiogram/heart cath/Got the good news/ LAD and Right coronary Art. 100% blocked. Doc says the blockage started 5 or 6 years ago..The LAD is supplys 2/3 of the blood to the heart aka widow maker. Do to being active, I have a nice network of peripheral/collaterals arteries around the blockages...........Thanx

Glenn..best of luck to you. I went through it in May 2008 at age 48. Calcium blocks and very small arteries (genetics, my bro had OHS at age 39)...thank God for the peripheral arterial growth. I urge you to get at least two opinions, sometimes these things can be worked out with stents...a lot of times they can not. I never took calcium sups, so sometimes there isn't much you can do about it. I did smoke for 15 years, quitting in 1990...a bad thing to participate in...the smoking, not the quitting. I have not been as active since the surgery and I have gained about 35 pounds...so I'm trying to get on the bike more and return to my more active self...it's not easy.
