Still alive and well........

I managed to get a couple things done,so here we go.

Somehow I got talked into playing/making alcohol stoves........oops!.......Back to tents.



I don't have room inside the house to cut big panels,so I lay out an old sheet and draw/cut on top of that.

I set up the tent and take some measurements of the 4 sides of each panel.Lay out the material and cut 4 panels,2 left,2 right......storm panels for front and back.



After the panels are cut,all 4 sides of each panel is hemmed.Then the zipper is added to the back side of the correct front or back panels,pinned in place,ready for sewing.

The gap you see at the top,is the top-inside of a front/back panel.I need a few inches to make sewing around the storm flap/zipper,upper vent area much easier later.I won't have to try and sew around seams/zipper/covers when installing the storm doors later.

All that junk will be below a single hem line....



A view at the front of the zipper,looking from the outside of the panel.Zip goes on the inside of the storm panels,not only for looks,but more importantly for protection,and much easier to seam seal.

I have decided to install an extra zip in the rear storm panels.They were going to be a single panel,propped up in the middle if/when it's hot.For the weight of a zipper I can make them open up wide.

Seems sort of stupid to NOT put a zip in the back,don't yeah think?.........DOH!

Keep up the good work man! There's nothing that I love to see more than someone who builds their own stuff; I share the same level of OCD. I hope you finish soon, I'm awaiting the results.

I know it's been awhile,SORRY!!!!.....I haven't forgot about you guys.....I see my tent everyday telling me it's wants to be finished..........It's just been real busy at work lately and by the time I get home,my brain is full of numbers and math formulas and I'm tired!

The Tour of California is coming thru town this weekend and the holiday is next weekend....soooo,chances are good I won't be doing much,at least on the weekends.I'll try to get something done during the week if I can.

It WILL get finished,so check back from time to time and you will see a finished tent.

I want to thank all of you for taking the time to watch and maybe learn something along the way,I know I learn something from watching others.

OK,were at it again.......I know I know.....about time.



When we last left off,I was making rear storm panels.The rear storm panel is completed on 3 sides,a zipper installed and a zipper cover.



Here is the zip cover.Notice that the gaping hole at the top of the panels is now gone,covered by the zip cover.



I pin the panel to the tent across the top of the door and a single pin at the bottom at each side.I'm fitting it to the tent so that I can mark where the final seam will be.It's not a straight line,the main panel is cut on a slight catenary line to help keep it tight.

I just stretch it out,mark it with a felt pen,then take the whole mess down,remove the panel,finish the last edge,sew the panel on to the tent.

I'm finishing the seam that runs top to bottom,on the outside of the panel,the "hinge" part of the panel.



Here it is sewn,rear storm panel almost done.



And here it is open.I still need to add a couple of tie backs for the door panels,just clothspins for now.There are some I added when I sewed the panel on but they are to low,I will need to cut them off and move them higher up.

There will be an adjustable lead from the bottom of the door to the stake to tension the storm flaps.

So far so good,now I need to make another storm panel for the front.
