Celebrity bike shop

I liked this New York Times article about a bike shop in Soho that has a lot of celebrity customers. The shop owner has also done a lot to promote everyday cycling in New York, and advocate for better bike riding in the city, starting way back in 1978.

I enjoyed this anecdote from one customer at the shop, who seems to really "get it":

The actor Matthew Modine, who started Bicycle for a Day, a nonprofit group to promote cycling, said that he was ready to help the city’s efforts, recalling how he used an abandoned Raleigh orange beach cruiser to get to auditions when he was starting out as an actor.

“It was my gem; it kept me in shape,” he said. “That orange beach cruiser was like a gift from the gods.”

Does anybody here have any interesting stories about celebrities and bicycles?

My Grandfather stole veggies from George Bernard Shaw's garden during WWII as a kid (he was hungry). He said the man knew the most colourful language he'd ever heard (that's saying something for a kid that grew up by the Isle of Dogs). I imagine rations wouldn't have replaced Shaw's stolen veggies.

The famous person didn't ride a bike, but I think it's a pretty good story. I can just imagine the writer in his 80's trying to chase down a 12 year old on his bike.

Your post remind me that the in Los Angeles area (mostly on the West Side), our own celebrities (a mix of actors/actresses, and of course Rock & Sport Stars) use bikes too. You will find them riding on set or at the studio (just like the Golden Age Hollywood stars did) to get around or reduce their stress levels, or out on the beach or in their neighborhoods riding along the bike paths or quiet streets just like anyone else.

As for favorite bike shops, the ones located at Venice, Santa Monica, and Pacific Palisades areas serves them. In the old days of cinema, Safety Bike Shop on North Western Avenue (which is still in operation after all these years with different owners) generally handled the studio crowd in the Hollywood area.

Usually a motorcycle, but I know he does ride bicycles on occasion.

One time I saw Yahoo Serious in a parade. I was riding my bike at the time. That is all.

I've never been to Bicycle Habitat. I know it supports my fav bike club by doing free classes and providing space for some of their gatherings. But I just ride, not interested much in social aspect so I never go to those things.
