    200-km brevet - 5..count them ...5 recumbents!

We did a 200-km brevet yesterday with the AZ Brevet & Rando group.

We finished the brevet in 9:40 - there was 5,300 ft of climbing so I don't feel too badly about the time. Temps were in the low 90's so it was hot too. One recumbent rider had issues withe the heat and DNF'd.

Park Link Drive wasn't bad - just long and constant climbing. The turn onto 79 wasn't bad - just long and constant climbing too. Highway 77 wasn't bad - just long and constant climbing until we dropped down for the turn into San Manuel and then it was more... you guessed it... long and constant climbing to San Manuel. Webb Dr from San Manuel to Oracle was a killer - 15 miles or so of climbs that ranged from 2-13%. At least from there, it was literally all downhill back to Marana - mostly.

    It was a good day.

Left to right: Mark D (Bacchetta Giro), David B (Volae), Gerry aka K7 (CA 2), Susan R (Ti Aero) and Greg O (M-5).

    Cheers, Gerry

Wow, nice collection of 'bents, too!

I'm envious as I don't get to ride with any other 'bents. Not enough of them around where I live. The only other guy I know who has one near me is a RAAM rider/Team Bacchetta kinda guy. Can't keep up with him

You need to head over to Easy Racers to see if there's a rider group you can join.

Nice! I did the Ride Ataxia Dallas ride yesterday and on Team Easy Street (50mi route) there were 5 of us on recumbent bikes too. Many trikers were on the 25mi route or in the 2-mi park loop route for fun and families.
The 50mi route had 2 Musashi's, Giro 26, CA2.0 and a TiAero. So the B-hive was well represented, as was Cat.

    Homeless guy.....

While sitting outside a Circle K in Oracle AZ enjoying a cold drink, a couple and their kid pulled up in a truck.

There was a beagle in the back of the truck. I love beagles - esp. ours (Kimble) - so I asked if I could pet their beagle.

The lady glanced at me & responded, "Sorry, I don't have any change."

Yes - it's clear that nasty, sweaty, hot brevet riders are frequently mistaken for being homeless.
