    kryptonite re-key?

I have two kryptonite locks for which the keys have been lost and they weren't registered. Both were going to be thrown out so I took them. Has anyone ever had a u-lock re-keyed? I wrote to Kryptonite but didn't get a response. I thought here might be a more reliable source for info.
Neither is one of the old ones that have a round key and can be picked with a pen.

If they're the old barrel type keys then all you need is a ball point pen to open them..

See if the key code is written on the lock somewhere. I doubt it, but it might be worth a shot.

Meanwhile, you may want to re-think your spare key strategy.

FWIW - OnGuard brand U-locks, at least the higher end ones, include 5 keys and a fob (to be kept at home) and one of the keys has a little LED flashlight in it.

Guys, thanks for your help and input. But seriously, I'm begging you to read my original post. Maybe I'm defensive because I'm proud to be the kind of guy who NEVER looses his keys. These locks were given to me by people who both failed to register them and then misplaced all the keys. They are nice locks and I'm just wondering if I can get them to work instead of just tossing them. The keycode isn't on them because then you could case out a bike you want, write down the code, have them send you a key, and steal the bike.

Kryptonite is now a off shore contract, importing brand,

Compare Paying a locksmith to make a key from the, picking, to the blank modifying

and the throwing the lock away ,, steel scrap, and buying a new one ..

I now have a neck loop over my head with my keys on it,
I have a friend, locksmith trained, that picked the deadbolt to my apartment ,
    I had spare keys , inside ..

Oh, if they're not in the US then it surely wouldn't be worth it to have to ship the lock just to have it re-keyed. I hadn't thought of just taking it to a locksmith. That sounds simplest anyway. Then I just compare the cost to buying a new one.

I have an OK u-lock and I almost never have to lock my bike in a place where I need really good protection. But It would be nice to have a better lock if I can get one of these to work for not too much dough. As you can probably tell I'm really cheap.

    cheers!

A little late, but this is from the FAQ on Kryptonites site:

I have a Kryptonite lock and lost both of my keys. What do I do?
If you registered your key number or know your key number contact us and we'll get you replacements. If you do not know your key number and did not register your keys you can take advantage of our Re-Key Service (U.S. & Canada customers only). The cost of re-keying is $20 for u-locks and heavy duty cables and $10 for cables that are 10mm and under. This includes two new keys and shipping back to you. Send the lock and check or money order payable to Kryptonite in USD to: Kryptonite, Attn: Re-Key Dept., 437 Turnpike Street, Canton, MA, 02021. Canadian customers: send an international money order in USD.
    Giant doesn’t honour warranties.
