What did you think was on your fixie that was newer than 1913, btw? Maybe the tire compound, square taper BB, and aero rims.
How did you establish it would rust faster than other bikes? Better steel is actually often somewhat less corrosion resistant.

I don't, which is why I qualified my statement. They're a basic transpo bike from China with spoon brakes (that nobody in the developed world uses anymore because they're so bad) and a gaspipe steel frame, and almost certainly off-spec parts that would be difficult to replace. You could build a better (higher quality, safer) SS bike from a Chicago Schwinn. At retail I'd MAYBE pay $50 for one, new.

Your bike probably comes from China too unless you used an old tenspeed.

Wow, you found the one part of my post that was incorrect to disagree with. You're right, it uses rod brakes. Which are also so old and ****ty that nobody uses anymore. The rest of my post stands - it's an overpriced piece of **** that only someone with a boehner for Flying Pigeons and no insider in China would pay $199 for.
One of my bikes was made in Japan, one in France, one in China, the last in Taiwan. My statement was one of fact, not opinion. It's made in China, and it's a massively produced and distributed bike. The cost to build and ship it to LA is likely miniscule, which makes that price criminal.
This is one of those thread where you ask a question but really you already know what you want the answer to be.

I actually kind of wanted an informed opinion.
he wants someone who's actually ridden one to tell him it's a good ride and that 200 is a good price.
which i think is unlikely, given that if you pick one up at the LA store they charge you another 200 for assembly. my shop assembles boxed bikes for 80 dollars. they must be absolute **** to be that much work to assemble, or a chaincase is far more difficult to install than i've ever imagined.

i researched these last year when one of my bosses wanted to buy one. they're like 40 lbs and singlespeed, and i haven't ridden one but you only asked if anyone had, you didn't exclude anyone from posting unless they have... in which case you could just stop insulting mods and start waiting to post ANYTHING until you read what you want to read.

I googled it but did not manage to find that particular page. The main thing that causes concern is the story about the racer who sheared his pedal off riding in the hills by Singapore.
If it's truly a copy of a Raleigh, though, then it should take standard 9/16-18 pedals.
I find the report about losing the brakes and having to stop with the feet to be a little questionable, because how likely is it that both brakes should fail at once?
Maybe it was some noob who didn't know rim brakes don't work on wet chrome steel rims, and got his rims wet.
