Hello! My name is Sergie and i'm new to this forum and to commuting in general. Thanks for having me!
So I used my roommates bike to commute to work (7 miles) and i loved it so i want to get a nice bike to commute all over the place. Its way more fun than sitting in a car! I've been looking around and found some sweet bikes that fit the style i'm looking for - either a flat-bar hybrid urban bike or a road bike with a flat bar. I'm from san diego so i need gear options, but no fenders/saddles. I'm trying to keep it $1,000 and below if i can. Here are some i've looked at:
Cannondale Badboy 9 - upside: really nice looking bike. nice slick style. runs $730 from REI. Downside: seems heavyish and the tires seem slick which may need replacing.
fezzari speedster r2 - looks nice with good components but i've heard mixed reviews or no reviews at all about the company so i'm skeptical. i like that it looks like a road bike with a flat(ish) bar.
focus urban 27 - super slick looking bike. i can get it locally for about $1,200, but don't know if it's worth the extra money. upside: focus makes great bikes.
convert used road bike to flat bar - i can try to find a used road bike for around 800 on craigslist and convert to flat bar. downside: i'll need to change shifters, brake levers and housing cables. upside: much lighter commuter bike! super sporty!
From your experience what would be the better option or a different bike you like? I'm looking for something that will be fast, fun, long lasting and overall a good investment. Thanks for your help!
