Levi Leipheimer Hit by Car in Spain While Training Solo

Surprised not to see any threads on this anywhere in the forum:

    http://espn.go.com/olympics/cycling/...ar-lucky-alive

"Yes I was hit by a car directly from behind, didn't see or hear it coming. One of the scariest experiences of my life."

    Time for a mirror, eh?

You double posted but that might be b/c of server error. I deleted the dupe.

This thread might end up in the Pro forum but since it's about road riding and not racing we'll see how it goes.

Getting hit seems to plague pros and amateurs alike. And it sucks even worse when it takes you away from work. At least it sounds like nothing is seriously wrong.

yeah, no broken bones, but he was getting updates from his Doc to see how long his recovery would be. I understand he was still planning to ride the P-R this weekend if possible.

Levi was supposed be at Pais Vasco not Roubaix. No way does a team like Quik Step have a spot for him on a classics squad.

Was he hit from behind? How did a car catch up to Levi?

I'm trying to imagine Levi being in front of something.

Levi had an amazing season last year. Let's hope this doesn't affect his season this year too badly, I'd love to see him win some more races.

Levi is extremely lucky! I had a similar accident about 25 years ago and have a steel plate in my right leg and two steel rods in my back as souvenirs.

He sustained some injuries, from what I read he is in a wheel chair. Would say he is super super lucky to come out with just a scuff.

I read the interview and it is very graphic the way he explains the accident.

He couldn't even get an x-ray in Spain.

Not gonna start getting political about healthcare, but WOW.

uh...where did you read that? What could possibly be political about it?

From the Velonews article linked above by Arprince:

LL: They really didn’t do much yesterday. I am not sure if it’s because of the crisis (ed. note: Spain has 23.6% unemployment nationwide), but all they did was an echo-scan. They didn’t even do X-rays. They do not give you painkillers or anything. The team doctor here, who is also Spanish, said it was because of the crisis, that they are cutting back. The team really took good care of me. I was thankful on a day as big as Flanders for the team and how well they treated me.

    Ah I missed that link.

It's weird that every single other story I read on it said he was "xrayed at an area hospital."

Update: It's being reported(via Velonews)that Levi has a fractured Fibula & is sidelined 2 weeks. Levi claims this sets him up nicely for the TDF. Wonder if he misses the TOC?

I read on ESPN that Levi has a broken leg and "hopes" to return for the Tour of Calif. Lucky to be alive but as far as crashes go he has some crummy luck.

As to the x-ray. He could have gone to an international airport for his free TSA x-ray although the process does not work very well for the 10billion $ spent. Last time through Phoenix they insisted my wife has a plate in her back? Took about 30 min. to convince them otherwise.

He's been out motorpacing near Santa Rosa with Allen Lim. Who knows, he could do the TOC. I'd be pretty impressed if he's recovered that quickly.
Just get in the saddle and ride.

6th place (+2:13) in the TOC GC. Not to mention 9th place (+1:08) on Mt. Baldy. That's some serious HTFU.
