a strip of innertube between the handlebars and the mount....most of these mounts are supplied with a strip of sticky / stretchy rubber for that purpose.

Really don't think I can handle a 4 week wait for stuff from China I ordered my clamps April 10.....1/12 th of a year....not for me. I did see the same clamp stocked in the us for 2x to 3x the price....I need those clamps to cut my top panel for the light box....Oh well.

Going to try the strip of innertube in between the handlebars and mount.

Also, I did a fast check of Tmart, they have a warehouse in NJ, and ships from there. That is where I got my light from.
I checked to see if they had the mount/clamp. It seems, they had every one except this.

Take a look for yourself, you might see something that might work. This will be 3 or 4 day shipping time.

    Update:
Clamps arrived today (just as I had given up)
    good quality.
the polycarbonate (plastic) appears to be of good strenght for the job.
They will clamp nicely on the barrel of the one 26650 flashlight....however I will cement a rubbery liner of some type. (innertube may be over kill here) to achieve maximum snugness.

These holders will be attached to the top plate of the light box.

Off to Discount Steel for some metal.

    Pix to follow.

    Can't wait a month for stuff...sorry DealExtreme

It was worth the wait. I did find a US supplier by using Google...and then searching by IMAGE instead of web.....I saw this clamp then clicked the image and found one or two US suppliers. At twice the cost.

What I have found to be NECESSARY is a rubber-ey liner for the jaws. On one I have 3 layers of Gorilla Tape and on the other I have 3 layers of Photogaphers Gaffer Tape (like Duct tape but $20 / roll ....highest quality adhesive that doesn't get left behind on tripod legs and light stands...important)

This gives a solid grip to the light and allows compression so that you may FOLD OVER the tab of the screw-tightening end at the place where you want it to rest.

The lights are SOLIDLY mounted in the brackets...I may have to get a few more to use the lights off-bike.

Metal shopping is on the list for tomorrow....don't want something too shiny...could be a pain in the neck in bright sun.

I'm attracted to this clamp. $6.00 at Deal Extreme it's a 'quick release thumbscrew style clamp for a Bottle Bracket'

I would use 2 joined together for $12...I like it because it's similar to a photographers studio clamp called 'The super Clamp' I've used 2 paired 'Super Clamps' to hold the light but it's too big / heavy / bulky / overkill.

You can crank it nice and tight as opposed to begging the Velcro to grip.

The other bonus is that it could help me use the flash light 'Off-Bike' My previous favorite flashlight was my Makita 12 Volt light with an articulating head that used the 12 v NiMH battery pack from the drill kit.

It was so useful for mundane tasks like locating the usb port on the back of the computer in a dimly lit area...you could just stand the light up and aim it and then work with both hands.....I envision being able to use the Cree 26650 light in a similar fashion.

I'm also toying with the idea of buying a 14.4 Volt based Drill set and using the battery packs to power the bike's lights as well as the drill.
If you liked the Super Clamp you might like the Manfrotto 386B Nano Clamp even more. It's a mini version of the Super Clamp, but lots smaller. Weight is 3.8 oz (110g) and it can handle a payload of up to 8.8 lbs (4kg). Both 1/4"-20 and 3/8" female sockets are built-in. Those were what I used myself to do the initial testing of my own lighting system. The threaded hardware will corrode if left outside, so its not ideal for a permanent bike except for fair weather sorties, but does make an ideal interface for worklights.

Thanks for the tip...never seen one. I do have about 30 of the super clamps and related gear...kind of like Legos

I did find an imitation nano clamp for half the price...not as sturdy but the price tag on the nano is a deal breaker

For $12 I'm in but $36...no sale. especially when I can get these 'good' quality polymer clamps for $6

I took them apart and coated the wear surfaces w/ vaseline..

Took apart the clamps and coated the treads and the locking flap working surface w/ Vaseline...seems to work smoother.

ALSO COATED THE TREADS OF THE 2 FLASHLIGHTS WITH VASELINE.....the effect seems to provied an easier 'Break' when unscrewing...it will still close very tightly but is easier to unscrew. also during the threading action it has a nice.......???Hydro-Glide??? feel. Seems to work fine....I guess a graphite paste might work also or "LUBRI-PLATE" which is a white grease used to assemble engine parts.

Vaseline is nice and clean...I used a q-tip to apply....you could go anywhere from a dab to over kill....so far / so good.

    Metal shop on Friday.

Will try that vaseline bit. The other day, one of my smaller 18650 lights needed a fresh cell. I couldn't unscrew to put in a fresh cell, it was too tight!! I had to call on my superwoman wife to unscrew it.. Whatever I find that works, I will do it to all of them..

In the meantime, running my lights, checking in on your project=Big Fun...

Can't see the harm in the Vaseline application...it does allow for an easier 'Break' when unscrewing. Overdoing it could be possible...in the heat the vaseling may flow a little....but that could be easily moderated w/ a wipe of the paper towel. Graphite POWDER may be useful as well...I do like the idea of getting something wet on the O-rings. Didn't think of WD-40 but....I think whatever is used moderation is a good thing.

THANKS ! for the link to Tmart...free shipping from a us warehouse...I'll order something tonight just to test them out....they're shrewed to offer the free shipping and no minimum order.....they'll come out ahead on people having a smaller hurdle to jump to become a client.

May go w/ stainless for the light box...looks so cool.

This is the cardboard / corrugated plastic mockup mounted to the frame.

As of Saturday May 19 all the Aluminum and Stainless Steel part have been cut (tough work) and fitted.

They are taped into place with photograhers tape and today I will bolt it all together and mount it....I will un mount it to install electronics.

This has gotten out of hand and it's a lot of fun......the Stainless Construction makes it look like a Webber Grill.

    More tonight.

The Stainless is a bear to work with...could have used a band saw but only had a powered hack saw that went through blades quickly.

Once this is done I will mount 2 side facing Amber and one rear facing red Led Panel framed in 1.5" angle aluminum.

I'll have to remember to take some assembly shots while working today.

    Eddie

Worked late into the night....This has gone past being a bike light into a sculpture project....Practical considerations have gone out the window and it's become an entertainment thing...

I haven't taken a ride where it's been powered up....that will happen this week.

The Stainless is gorgeous, expensive and difficult to work (especially the curves)

    I'd recommend aluminum for functionality.

Back to the garage for more assembly.

No those are run of the mill Ergonomic grips that you usually see on the end of handlebars. I have 2 sets of extensions on the straight handlebars....standard curved extensions and at the end of those I've attached a six inch straight extension and installed the Ergo Grips on that extension.

I also relocated and lengthened the real brake lever from the lower standard bar to the curved extension so I can operate at least one of the brakes when the hands are in either the upper or lower position.

It's an exceptionally comfortable bike and you'll note the "Flat" seat.

Speakers for me would be excessive....I have seen it. I listen to my cable box via Slingbox or streaming audio of talk radio on Earbuds via Android while biking....I could see some tweeters up front and a sub-woofer in the back if you were listening to music.

    I wasn't thinking in that direction....see photo...china.1208921880.the-essentials.jpg

Just wanted to post new photos quickly....I'm a professional photographer and I love the cell phone cam....and am embarrased by showing crappy photos but.....something is better than nothing....box / light bar / top panel are assembled...the door is 'underdevelopment.

I am testing using a piece of plexiglass so I can see what's happening on the other side...it will be replaced by stainless.

    New Thought:

I may relocated the 2 26650 Flashlights to the side ????? Just because I love the look of the stainless steel.....

This was fun and I'm only 60% done with this project.

First ride scheduled for this week...on Urban paths....I will install DPDT switches so I can use the led panels always on or using one of 3 strobing patterns.

    There will be Youtube vids

I don't do a lot of OMG but OMG !!!

Got the light installed firmly and powered up the front 4 led panels 4 x 44 = 176 LED's

Didn't even mount the 2 big 'Torches' or the homemade 4x Luxeon light.....I temporarily wired the top 2 White panels as always on and had the bottom Red and Blue go through their 3 strobing / flashing / wig-wag patterns.

And it is COMPLETELY AWESOME !!!

Pix don't do it justice.....but what I'm seeing and enjoying here is just the 'VISIBILITY' aspect.

It will be a head turner (at night) The 14" x 5.5" light panel is like a billboard
The effect will be that EVERY rider / driver will wake up out of the usual stupor and NOTICE this Wall of Flame.

Got some crappy pix but the fun continues and I should start a thread just on the construction.....More later

What I had not expected was the 'visibility' of the light bar....it's so big and bright that you can't ignore it. There will be three on the back (amber and red) two on the side one in the back...I was tempted to buy 2 white panels for the side lights because they are so bright.
