Bike + Camera

Sorry if this thread may be redundant--I did search for similar topics and found a few, but none seemed to be what I was looking for.

Basically, I want to carry my camera with my during my bike rides. This is the camera:

So, it's not huge... but not tiny either. I have a nice bag for it already, and the few times I've tried to take it I either wore in on my back (which I hated) or wrapped the strap around the handle bars a bunch of times, which wasn't stable and would bounce over the bar on every bump.

I thought a rear-mount thing (sorry, I'm not yet familiar with proper bike terminology) would work good, but a co-worker/biker told me they won't work on disc breaks. So what's my next best option? As noted, I don't want to wear the camera. If I could use my current bag, great! But I don't mind buying an additional one to mount on my bike if needed.

For reference (although I doubt it's that important), but bike I want to mount my camera on is a Trek 4300.

I think your best bet is to stick with the bag. I ride with my Nikon D80(not huge, but not small either) all the time and just keep it in my pack. The main drawback with my setup is that it's a bit slow.

What bag do you currently own? Something you could look into is getting a small additional bag to attach to your riding pack...like this toploader: https://www.lowepro.com/toploaderzoom

Can't find my actual bag online, but this is pretty close. Mine's maybe a little bit smaller.

Maybe I could replace the straps with something different? Wearing it over the shoulder causes it to bounce all over and it was actually hurting my shoulder as well.

I don't have a "riding" bag. I originally thought I'd just get some sort of backpack for riding and stick the camera in it. But I haven't looked for a bag yet (I just started riding this season).

I have a Nikon D as well. I can fit it in my hydration bag. I have to be careful how I pack it. You hit a bump wrong and somehow it turns on.

What about a rear-mounted rack? I don't seem to see to many of them on mountain bikes... is there a reason for this?

There are rear racks designed for mtn bikes, but weight on them during a ride is a lot of strain. We use one when we are doing cross country/urban biking. I use a neoprene camera wrap and a rapid strap, and carry my camera on my chest/abdomen (just above my solar plexus). The rapid strap lets me shift the anchor points, so that the camera is snug against while I'm riding, but can easily slide the anchor and use the camera in a second. It was important to me to not have to dismount or mess with my pack.
