Shorty Ultimate Installation Problem

I have a strange problem with an installation of some Shorty Ultimates. Even after figuring out that the SRAM install instructions are less than user friendly, we saw that the so called red dot spring (front) goes on the left side - as you look at the front brake from the front, not as you ride the bike. However, the brakes spring into the closed/engaged position and not the open position. This is the oddest thing I have ever seen on CX brakes, and it is driving us nuts. Anyone else have this happen before? What is the fix? What are we doing wrong?

ignore the colors, swap the springs and see if it works.

My builder had some head scratching moments setting mine up as well. He commented to me that the instructions were backwards. Once he got them set up, he did comment on how nice they are. I know this doesn't help much, but I will say, they are some damn nice brakes. If my other bikes stopped this good, I would wonder why anyone would want disc brakes.

I had the same issue with mine. The shop just ignored the colors and made it work. I love these brakes.

Thanks guys. We searched the web and forums before starting the install. In the end we've ordered in some new brake studs for the Colnago. The unfortunate part was that the one spring kept popping out while tensioning and srcatched the hell out of the annodizing on the front brake.

Overall, I am very disappointed with the install instructions and it was an expensive lesson for one rookie mechanic. These maybe great stoppers but in the end a new spring kit, new posts, and the initial cost of brake set...SRAM should be embarrassed.
