Breathtakingly tragic and sick!
One of the shocking reports I heard about this was from KGO's news anchor at around 2pm today spinning this as one more example that "bikes and cars on the streets don't mix"... Can anyone rationalize such a stupid statement? "News" has become just more toxic talk radio.
Giving a teenager a mini tank to drive provides them with a false sense of security and safety. And it also grants them an inflated sense of entitlement, and results in them growing up as entitled adults who feel like they own the road.
This is the LAST thing I want my daughter to drive when she's a teenager.
Everyone should be required to drive a 30 year old POS vehicle until the age of 30. Builds character.
Always searching for Lotus literature and memorabilia for use at www.VintageLOTUSbicycles.com, can you help?
The 17-year-old suspect who police say was responsible for the double-fatal collision on April 7th in Concord, was apparently cited for narcotics & weapons violations by the Walnut Creek Police just one week before the tragic crash.

I've resisted the FB approach and am now glad of it.
Hope they lock him up for years, and years, and years.

Yeah kids like this from families that can afford to give him an Escalade typically get less than a slap on the wrist for murder. Heck, I was at UCSB when that TV-show producer's son killed 4 kids by running them over and smearing them into a parked car. And he kepted on going and dragging a couple of them under the car for a couple blocks. He got no jail time and was sentenced to drug-rehab.

Wonder how the narcotics and weapons charges file against this waste of skin bt WC will handled. Obviously, if this cretin is convicted on all counts, I'd hope the sentences would have to be served consecutively, as opposed to concurrently.

Is that 10 years per life he extinguished, or does he get a 2-fer-1? Sorry to sound rude, but crap like this pisses me off. 10 years to kill a child and ruin a family's life does NOT sound like enough IMO. It's NOT an accident when you make the decisions he did leading up to that crash.
The news doesn't care about facts, only sensationalism, so they can sell more advertising space!
If this was truly just a horrible accident, then the sentence will correspond to that, but that's only the criminal side. It's the civil side where he will really get fanged once he is sued. If he was intoxicated, then it will be felony vehicular manslaughter, so he will also have a felony on his record for life, and it's one count per injured person, so two counts of felony DUI here. The problem with DUI related accidents is that just about everybody drinks alcohol, and these same people also drive, sometimes after having had a drink or two, so they don't want to set a precedence where they could possibly be sent to prison for a long time, so 10 years is where they figured they've screwed up with your life long enough. Judges and lawyers have done more harm to this country than any other group of people!

Relatives have created an on-line petition to the DA to fully prosecute the driver.
PETITION
Probably has the same legal effect as writing a letter to the DA... none. Just a way of letting him know this case will stay in the public eye and the DA will be evaluated on how he handles it come election day.

I sure hope the family goes after him (and his parents) in a civil suit.
One would hope previous arrests/convictions are taken into account when he gets sentenced and he gets the full hammer.
worst I've heard of since becoming a BF member and I've read all the fatal reports posted. I'm always looking to keep myself and my family safe. this is the most hrific and most senseless.
