First ride in the sunshine this year!

Finally all the cruddy Washington weather subsided for a few days and although i'm working graveyard shift all weekend, I managed to get a few 20 mile rides in in the sunshine. Man it felt good! The roads were silky smooth and clean. The wind was still. Hell, even the dogs that chase me just smiled and left me alone as I rode by! I guess I was getting used to 40 degrees and rain/hail all bundled up in wet weather clothing. It was nice to get out in shorts and a jersey and no shoe warmers. But alas, the rain shall return tomorrow, but it was nice while it lasted.

We've been rather spoiled in the midwest this "winter" as it's really been more like a fall/spring mix, but man, I've been there before. It's always great to have that fist dry, sun shiny ride.

The smells were great.

The sun was warm.

The air was clear and the views were fantastic.

But it wasn't all fun. There was work involved.

My usual ride involves a road known as GMR (Glendora Mountain Road). Seeing how all my rides this year have been up it and it alone, I thought Easter Sunday morning would be spent somewhere else for a change. This ride involved riding out to and around at the base area of Mt Baldy, Southern California's best mountain ride possible. What a day.
P.S. It was only about 80 degrees out.Almost put the arm warmers on.

My sunny day was barely 60! I guess I'm fully acclimated since 60 felt hot. No warmers needed.

I rode the WA "sunny day" too on Saturday. However, due to family commitments I had to start at 7AM. I actually had ice paritcles form on my eyelashes. It was 27 degrees and freezing cold - literally.

If I waited for the sun to heat the land Id also be fighting traffic and wind.

I just did the Daffodil ride which starts in Orting Washington with the Tacoma Wheelmen Bicycle Club today. It got to 60 degrees today and wow was it beautiful. It has been a very hard winter not seeing much of the sun. My wife and one of my kids went on the ride and we had a great time. I am tired of riding the bike in the house all the time!

Where'd you go?

Yesterday I took my bike to explore the Teanaway. For a lot of the ride, I wished I'd left my windbreaker behind...

Yesterday was the first day for a ride in just a jersey. Had to wear a jacket for over half of it though thanks to the Ellensburg permawind, still great progress as I did not need a base layer and would have overheated big time had I had one on.

Not to hijack but SF how was your ride?
