Any Adventurous Riders in the Rio Grande Valley? (McAllen area)
Trying to find some local cyclists who might be up for some backroads exploration riding. Most of my friends are road-only types, but I prefer hybrids and enjoy exploring the back roads and trails that most cyclists don't frequent. I would love to meet some like-minded riders and go out as a group.

You should check out the Ciclistas Urbanos from Edinburg. They do some weekly rides which sometimes go onto back roads. Another good group is Bike Edinburg. Both of them can be found on Facebook.
I have a hybrid myself but mostly commute on it and keep it on the road and I understand that most cyclists down here seem to be weekend warriors on road bikes.
I'd recommend riding the canal system. They go out pretty far north and you're guaranteed to something cool on every ride. If you're really extreme and your bike is sturdy enough, visit the Mission bike trails on south Conway. You'll find 10 foot drops, slaloms trails, and be surrounded by mesquite and cactus you don't want to fall into.
Another cool ride I've done is heading out to Sal del Rey, an amazing salt lake about 30miles north of McAllen. Close to the San Manuel Chorizo factory.
