Those who have read my other thread, I have a 2012 coda sport ordered in 21".... Well, a bike shop about an hour away has a 2011 jAmis coda in black pearl for $449 BUT it's 19". my inseam on pants varies from a 32-33". I do have somewhat longer legs ... Should I try to save some $$ and go w a 19"?
No amount of money saved will be worth a bike that doesn't fit. You will not enjoy a bike that doesn't fit. That's like being married to a mate who doesn't suit you and doesn't make you feel good.
Soon, you will want a divorce.
As in life, only do that which you enjoy, if you can help it. Otherwise, life just becomes a drag.
Only purchase the bike that feels the best!
No, it will not fit, get the 21". I'm 5'9" with a pant inseam of 30" and I just barely fit my old 19" Coda.
Your preferred trouser inseam isn't a good way to guess your true standover height. Here's a link that might help you find a more accurate inseam measure.
Of course, that only gets you part of the way-- actually riding the bike is going to give you the real answer to whether the bike will work for you.
+1 with getting the 21". It will feel cramp in the 19" for you.
I am 5'6" and ride a 17.5" Coda Sport. At nearly 6'2", I can't fathom a 19" even coming *close* to fitting you properly. Don't sacrifice a good fit in an attempt to save money. You'll pay for it later. (Great bike, BTW!)
Do you think I'd need to jump to the 23"?
Possibly, you may actually be able to fit both the 21 and 23. If so, the smaller frame will give you a more aggressive position (saddle higher relative to the handlebars.) I would test ride the 21" and see how you like it. Set the saddle height using the method in this video before the test ride (ffwd to the 1:50 mark.) I just test rode an allegro and the 21" felt good... Stand over height is similar to 23" coda.
FYI, the head tube on the Allegro is 2" taller on than the Coda in 21" frame size. So the Coda position will be much more aggressive with the same saddle height.
On a side note, that Allegro is a great looking bike. The frame looks a lot like the Specialized Sirrus.

i'm glad i came across this thread. i was at my LBS today looking for a 2012 jamis coda elite which they didn't have in stock and they said none are available until june. i was trying to determine what size would work for me, i'm around 5'11"-6' and my inseam is around 33"-33.5" with a sneaker on. i took a 19" allegro comp out for a ride. the 19" allegro frame seemed like a pretty good fit (the only adjustment i made to the bike off the showroom floor was raising the seat post). looking at the specs on the jamis website, i think i would have to go with a 21.5" coda. am i missing anything or does this sound right?
