Allow me to get self indulgent...had an opportunity today to revisit the spot where I hit the deck a few weeks ago (or, in the best British lexicon, where I had "a bit of a shunt"):
Pumping the 50/11 down the hill before things went really bad. Found the lump in the road that caused it...one of those tree root type pop ups that you really don't see till you hit it, especially in pouring rain. I remember heading for the trees thinking "Oh man...this is going to be bad". Corrected it enough to have it pointed more or less down the road before I went off into the dirt.
A flight over the bars, a mid-air flip, and several rolls later I came to a stop at about (what I now realize) was a few feet from a steel pole topped with a "No Parking" sign. Just up from where I exited the road was it's twin. Looking at this now I realize how much worse it could have been...tiny shoulder, road furniture, high speed.
Pretty lucky, if you believe in that sort of thing.
