Help me get from Park Ridge, NJ to Norwalk, CT...

I'm trying to figure out a route to get from Cyclesport in Park Ridge, NJ to my Dad's place in Norwalk, CT.

I'm thinking the GWB but then navigating through the Bronx and Westchester seems a little complicated..

The other option is to head to Haverstraw and take the ferry over to Ossining and go from there..

Any suggestions?

There is an online NYC Bike map you can use to assist. You could try GWB to Hudson Bikeway North to Broadway, head East towards Mosulu Parkway and take Bronx River paths to Pehlam Parkway, Pelham parkway EAST towards Orchard Beach/City Island, get on Shore Road and follow to RT 1 North

I'd use the GWB. The riding through the Bronx is pretty stop-and-go, but I like city riding so I was happy when I did it. If you don't mind adding around 10-15 miles and some hills, there's always the Bear Mountain Bridge. You could also take public transit to Port Jefferson (via LIRR) and then take the ferry to Bridgeport, CT. Watch out for some psycho drivers there, but it's about 15 miles west to norwalk from there. has anyone ridden this?

About biking in NYC: It's a phenomenal experience these days, Manhattan and Queens have bike lanes everywhere (it's been a while since I've ridden in the Bronx) and the NYC bike map is great. Parts of western Long Island can be a little dicey, but mostly the areas right outside NYC. (And the LI expressway service road is a great road to bike on if it's not rush hour.)

You could try the GWB, then take the subway downtown and connect to the #6 train uptown to Pelham Bay Park, and ride the paths to City Island and connect to Shore Road to RT1. The train downtown will get you from riding through dense traffic sections of the Bronx.

Yes. I rode from Bridgeport to Darien, CT, which is a little further west than Norwalk. There are some very nice parts to this ride once you're out of Bridgeport. Here's my cue sheet. Mind you, however, that there was at least one spot where I had to ask for directions. Bridgeport to Darien (21 miles)

Ferry Access Road south, becomes RR Avenue. Follow RR Avenue east 1.5 miles
Turn left on Fairfield Avenue and go 4.5 miles to Pequot
Turn left on Pequot and go 1.5 miles to fork. Bear left onto Beachside Avenue
1.2 miles and turn right onto New Creek
Quick left onto Greens Farms Road
2.5 miles and bear right/straight onto Bridge Street
½ mile, cross water and turn left on Riverside Ave
Go under 95 and make right onto Charles St/Park St (Rt.136)
At fork, go left on Park.
Bear left onto Sagatauk Ave (becomes Winfield St)
2.25 miles to East Ave (E. Norwalk train station)

From here, you'll have to customize the rest of your trip!

yeah, there'd be no real easy way, I don't think, for me to get to the Port Jeff Ferry -- and it takes some of the fun out of it.. trying to avoid mass transit, was only thinking the haverstraw/ossining ferry for convenience vs. going up to the Bear Mountain bridge, but that's another option as well..
