Another cyclist hit in San Diego... driver claims they didn't know they hit someone.

A bicyclist who was hit by a vehicle Wednesday night at an intersection in University Heights was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital with life-threatening injuries, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher said.

The woman who was driving did not stop, but later called police from home, English said. She said she did not realize she had hit someone, he said.

The motorist left the scene, later called in to say she may have been in an accident... claims she had a green light, and didn't know she hit someone... is this a fishy story or what?

Police say alcohol was not involved... yet this woman apparently could not tell that she hit something that weighed probably at least 150 lbs... AND she left the scene... but remembers that she had a green light... WTF!

I never quite understand the alcohol not being involved as having any meaning. So you can't drive while sober?

The story is definitely fishy. I think I will just stick to north county nowadays.

Well if alcohol is involved, it is instantly a crime... no alcohol, and now it is just a motorist running over a cyclist... no crime. Motorists rarely get ticketed for hitting or killing someone (cyclist, motorist or ped) if there is no alcohol involved. If you want to kill someone, just run them over... it's "free;" just make sure you are sober and act despondent over the situation.

Of course she did not know she hit someone while she was driving with her head up her assphone. Not sure how she knew she have a green light while in that position. Maybe she ASSumed it stayed green from when she last looked from a block away.

Did they do a BAC test? How long after the crash did she wait before calling in to the police? How much time had passed before an officer actually talked to her? How much time did she have to remove any incriminating evidence? Why do I think that it's safe to presume that she won't be charged with a felony?

Also isn't convenient that one would also have time to sober up so that "alcohol won't appear to be a factor?" And yeah, how the hell does one NOT know that they hit someone/thing?

I mean unless one is driving a Sherman Tank, shouldn't one feel and/or hear the thumb of impacting with another object?

Agreed, and in another thread we have a cyclist who hit a pedestrian and is being charged with a felony. And as I already asked, how much does anyone want to bet that the driver doesn't get any charges filled against her? Possibly not even the hit and run that she is clearly guilty of.

Yup, she probably won't be charged with anything important even though this is a pretty clear hit and run.

But if she has a heart -and some people do, after all- then she'll hate herself for what she's done. That can be pretty punishing. It's not good enough, but under the circumstances it'll have to do.

But then she might formulate a fantasy proving to herself that it was all the bicyclist's fault. Then she'll spend the rest of her life hating on bicyclists because of what we've 'done to her'.

It's pretty disgusting.

She was probably texting-felt a bump-heard him shriek-panicked and left.
Felt "guilty"-meaning was afraid someone had seem or photographed her car-so she called cops with the lame "maybe I hit someone"

If she is affluent she will pay off the rider-get him to be less interested in prosecution(yeah it isn't up to him but DAs like to plase the victim)

Really ??? I was under the impression that DA's like to please the public (with as-high a conviction rate as possible), in order to ensure a higher chance of re-election. Maybe I have just become too cynical in my old age.
