It's near the end. Not bloodly, but darn... the guy didn't stop apparently. I don't know more, the video link came to me through the Delta Peddlers list serve.

WANTED: Not a darn thing. I've got it all. Life is good.

Wow.
That certainly appeared to be a deliberate hit, that or the driver's attention was completely focused elsewhere. How do you not see someone wearing a totally red kit?
License plate appears to be 3LTK934, but I'm not certain.
i imagine they'll get him or her.
wow. sure hope they get the driver and nail their ass to the wall.
I've ridden this maybe 700 times over the decades, but told my wife two years ago no more. It was only a matter of time before this happened and, frankly, I'm sure has happened more than a few times.
This is Tunnel Rd. where it feeds into 13 on the R. The driver knew the road and was trying to cut the corner to get in the R lane, where it is unregulated. There is a light, but to go straight it's always green. As such, drivers start hitting the gas right where the hit took place. Aside from trying to cut the corner, the driver probably couldn't see or didn't care to look over the slight rise that maybe could have obscured his/her vision. No matter, driver should have been to the left of the markings.
The biggest danger is at this same point the shoulder ends and riders have to get to the left in order to get to the frontage road through traffic going upwards of 40mph with limited sightlines.
I can see why the driver kept going because: he/she is a loser and is getting on a freeway with numerous exit points. Once there, the driver is basically free.
Anyway, of course the driver should be nailed to a fence and left there.
oh, so THAT's the spot.
i've been over it numerous times on a bike, motorcycle and truck. i can't imagine there are many places that are more dangerous for a cyclist. i think if i HAD to ride it at that spot, i would take the WHOLE lane and make the motorists suffer. something i NEVER do. it's a dangerous spot even for motorists.
i won't envy the hit and runner when the police show up at their door. they are goint to have one miserable evening. maybe they stopped down the road and reported it. who knows?
It's just an impossible intersection: lots of drivers aren't expecting a rider in the middle of the road going up that hill. Compounding things is a low winter sun can be in a driver's eyes, not excusing the driver in this case of course.
The two riders in the video did everything "right" - they knew the route through the neighborhood, bypassing a lot of the traffic, rode to the right, etc. The one place I would have done something different is right where they got hit. Last few times I've gotten all the way over to the curb, stopped, then gone straight across past where the divider ends, portaged up to the road on the opposite side, then gotten back on.
Terrible!
I hope the video helps the police catch such a coward. Making a mistake is human and excusable, leaving the scene of a potential double personal injury of his/her own fault is a crime.
Cannot read the license plate but it's an Acura Integra 3rd generation (1994-2001).
That makes me murderously mad! That looks absolutely intentional. Either that or the fuhkhead driving had his/her head so far up his/her own azz they ought to be locked up for sheer stupidity/ignorance, let alone being a menace to our community!
I ride that section of road 4-5 days a week, and will be again in about 45 minutes from now! The scary thing is that this didn't even happen at the most dangerous part, where the bike lane shifts left to accommodate the onramp to 24 West. I DESPISE that merge!
Gotta say those guys pace on The Uplands is commendable!
GOT IT. 3LTK904, 1995 Acura Integra.
Wow! Also no other motorists even stopped to check on them.
WTF
License plate is 3LTK904, verified with CA smog lookup. 1995 Acura Integra.
EDIT: sorry for the repost... I see it above.
Alright then...turns out this is on the exact border of Oakland/Berkeley. Who is going to call the cops with this info?
I've emailed Berkeley, you want to take care of Oakland?
Sadly I don't think cops will do anything. Even if they get of their asses to find an owner of a vehicle, DA will not press charges.
I see hills.... Bring them on!!!
WTT compact Rival Crank (used) for compact Shimano crank.
KTVU just reported that police have located the car and owner, but no additional information.
Hopefully it was distracted driving--no excuse nonetheless--but not to stop one has to be without a conscience! (scum bag)
Great video and I understand the benefits of using a camera that I see on some riders helmets.
I wish the best to the two riders.
It's WAR over on sfgate right now! Anti-cyclist and anti-motorist sentiment flyin' like haymakers. If you want to experience some true ignorance (and perhaps ruin your sense of optimism about humankind on this beautiful Friday morning), I suggest you check it out. Never saw such strong opinions since the Barry Bonds steroid allegations were flooding the news!
The sfgate essfest is all about the public's reaction to the Chris Busschere incident I'm sure. Doesn't make the haters any more justified. They just need to focus their anger where it matters.
The Uplands stop signs are a red herring.

That settles it - I'm getting 2 Go-Pros this weekend - one for the front and one for the rear. Hopefully the rear facing one would get the driver's face to make a positive ID if this ever happens to me. That's the one thing that will make this one difficult to prosecute - unless the scumbag driver owns up, they could just say "prove it was me driving the car". Of course, all this assumes the police would even bother to pursue it - and judging by their usual record of ignoring attacks on cyclists, I'm not holding my breath.
And while I don't know that section of road (I'm nowhere near Berkley), that looked to me like it was either intentional (another psycho out gunning for cyclists?) or another idiot too zoned out on their damn iphone to be watching the road. And anyone who reads comment sections anywhere an article about cyclists comes up (especially places like sfgate), we all know there are plenty of people who are itching to do this. If anything, let's hope that a) this MF gets caught, b) the driver has posted some anti-cyclist spew on some forum in the past, thus building a case for a premeditated attack. I doubt it would be pursued to that extent, but... who knows?
What a looooooooooooooooooong strange trip it's been...
