    Is BikeDirect always slow?

I ordered the bike from BD a week ago. I got the UPS tracking # but it seems the bike still hasn't arrived UPS yet.

    Are they always so slow?

    Thanks!

No idea, but I do know that had you bought a bike from your LBS or a used one locally on Craigslist you'd have been riding it for the past week.

Not me. Craigslist here has only rusty Schwinns for $100, and the bike shops stock nothing but high end racing bikes. They take longer than BD to order stuff. I have never used any services of a bikes shop around here, they're not even as good at wrenching as I am, and they don't stock anything that I need, so I just go online.

Have you asked them about it?

When I ordered mine they sent me the estimated arrival date.

I have not received mine, ordered it on Wed. But so far the communication from bd has been what I would expect from an online retailer.

I hate waiting for delivery of new toys, whether its a car or a video camera. I never bought a bike on-line and i can only imagine the torture.

On the website it states that you will receive a tracking # but it may be a few days before you see movement.

Asked the LBS to order something for me? no. I've asked if they had something, and they say "no, but we can order it." Well, I can order it too, and get it for less money. IMO if they NEVER have what I'm looking for AND provide no services that I need, I really don't see any point in going through them and paying more money. I'm OK with paying a bit more to support local businesses, but not if they're not really doing anything useful. Since they're catering to roadies, let the roadies support them.

But one week without any movement... it's too long

I went with BD because my LBS could not get the Trek Belleville, not their fault. I tried every Bike Store in in the region. BD had the bike that was most similar in a price range I was willing to pay. I will take it to my LBS for them to go over and assist me with the build. I hated not ordering from them but did not have any other avenue.

Yes, my order has shipped some of the boxes. I think mine appears to be coming in three separate packages. They state it leaves directly from the factory they purchase from. In my case that appears to be Florida.

When I ordered my bike from BD back in February, it took three days from the time of order to my opening the package. I ordered it on a Monday evening. It arrived the same week, on a Thursday afternoon.

I think they ship from Texas, so the transit time shouldn't have taken too long for you....

I bought a bike from them in December 2011, and it UPS had the bike within 2 days I think. Then it took a few days to arrive in Massachusetts.

My LBS had to order my bike. They checked the stock to confirm. ETA was 8-10 business days for them to receive the unassembled bike. I picked up the bike 11 days after ordering. I would try to get an accurate ship date from BD. Perhaps their supplier screwed them. In this day and age of computerized inventory management, I would expect a large online seller to have this down. I order from Amazon and my packages always arrive on or before the delivery date.

    Last time I ordered from LBS for my bike... it was supposed to take 2 weeks to get there. Guess what, it took 8 weeks...;

After purchasing two BD bikes, and being greeted by both bikes receiving some sort of damage, whether do to from shipping or factory assembly, I decided to return to buying my bicycles at the LBS. At least at my LBS, I can check out the bike online and a similar size in person at the LBS, order the bike with only partial deposit, receive it fully assembled/tuned. If the bike happens to arrive looking like it spent the weekend with the Samsonite gorilla, the LBS will reorder another bike, and deal in returning the damaged bike.

As for answering the OP's question, both my BD bikes arrived in 1 to 2 weeks after placing the order, basically the same time frame as my LBS.

Ordered Wednesday morning, frame arrived Thursday morning. But then, I'm about a mile and a half from their warehouse.

All of the five bikes that I or my family members have received from BD arrived in 6 to 14 days, all undamaged.

Absolutely remarkable. The very first bicycle that I purchased after returning to the LBS, from purchasing the two BD bikes, was rejected by the LBS since the rear chain stay was slightly bent. Some people have all the luck.

UPS site lets you Input the tracking number and as they barcode everything,
And scan it arriving and departing each place on the trip,
will show you where it is in-transit.

for Extra Online entertainment.. and a little geography ..

All the Bikes I have ordered from both BikesDirect and BikesIsland came within 5 days of the order. Nashbar bikes came that fast also. If I remember right both BD and BI like being emailed better than being called. I would email them. I have had good response before. Any issues they took care of quickly and to my total satisfaction. YMMV
