disk brake bike models?

Just into the bike scene and pretty sure I want a cyclocross bike. I do want disk brakes however.

Can you guys point me in the direction of models that have disk brakes on them? I googled it alot but 90% of it is just articles about how disk brakes are finally allowed in competition lol. I saw the cannondale optimo had it but I cant find that for sale anywhere.

Im trying to shoot for something that has shimano 105 or better under $1200ish, used ebay is perfectly acceptable. I know brand new thats pretty much impossible on the 105's

Bikes direct has one cross bike with tiagra/105 and discs for $999. They have disc cross bikes starting at $500 so maybe get one of those and upgrade?

My own personal ride is the Traitor Ruben. It's a steel cyclocross style frame with disc brake tabs. Rides real smooth and stops on a dime.

Road a specialized cross bike today that had SRAM apex components. LOVED it. Its was to much at 1600 but i loved the feel of the apex, i feel like it was a much smoother faster solid shifting system. So ill give a solid look into the airborne. I know its supposed to be a model equivelant to tiagra? Still felt way better than any tiagra ive ridden

Also the gearing seemed like it went really high, I dont know if it was bike specific or a SRAM Apex thing but I loved that it had really high gears for easy climbing, may as well have been a mountain bike.

Apex is actually equal or slightly better than 105. Performance it rates about equal but its also lighter than 105 so some people actually claim it to be a little bit above 105. I personally advocate for the Specialized Apex Disc Crux (its my current ride). A slightly cheaper model from Specialized that you may consider is the Tricross Apex Disc model. Its a few hundred cheaper than the Crux but it also has mounts for fenders and racks and its almost as fun to ride.

In the completive bike marketplace, the major brands all will have one..

albeit you need to decide, just race? or do you need a commuter,
with some features carried over from touring and CX bikes.

realistically its a commuter with CX features.
I want a road bike, with a near roadbike light frame, that I can put near roadbike tires on, thats more durable than a typical road bike, can take a bigger beating and be riddin off road, and has disk brakes.

The airborne Delta seems perfect, anyone have comment on it? I can only find a couple online reviews from bloggers and no personal reviews.

Hit the shops see whats on the floor , right where you live..
then you have service after the sale.
buying online if you have problems they are not in your neighborhood.

If there is a particular model not in stock at the time you visit,
it only takes about a fortnight to order the other ones in the distributors warehouse.

Im not all to concerned about service from a local shop. Im the handy man type and do everything myself.

The airborne looks like the best deal around. Its rough to buy a less expensive bike and the upgrade components... Because at $999 for the airborne delta it practically is the price of components already. Planet X bike looks sweet but a lil pricey and no disks.
I dont think ill find a better fit for the price than the airborne.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Redline bikes. They are known for having disc CX bikes. I thought someone mentioned on another thread that you could find last years bikes at a discount too.

Not 105, but best of luck getting 105 and disc brakes at your price. Tiagra is 10 speed now anyways. Awesome frame! (TONS of hydroforming, full carbon fork, tapered head tube, etc.)

You and I are really in the same place right now. I've been shopping for bikes for a while now but still haven't made a purchase. There are a number of reasons why I haven't actually purchased something but my delay has given me the opportunity to try out a number of bikes. I started my shopping strictly looking at hybrids, the only road bike I tested was the Specialized Allez and I didn't like it.

Later I turned my search towards cross and cross style bikes. I was looking for the Tricross and happened to find and test ride a 2011 Crux at a bike shop in Natomas, I noticed you also live in the Sacramento area. The Crux was awesome. It feels so nimble, fast and fun. Since then I've tested the Tricross, the Salsa Vaya, the Surly LHT, the Bianchi Volpe, and another Crux.

The Tricross is a solid bike and would probably treat me just fine but it's not as fun as the Crux. The Salsa Vaya is very cool and unique. I'm really between the Vaya and the Crux right now. The Surly Long Haul Trucker is named appropriately because it rides like you're driving a semi. I'm sure it's great when loaded up with 40 pounds of gear but I wasn't a fan.

Something else that I'm interested in is the Soma Double Cross DC. The idea of building my own bike is very appealing but you can't know how a bike is going to ride when you can only buy it as a frame. I don't know anyone that owns a Soma Double Cross so I can't jump on one and take it for a test ride.

Another bike that's very appealing to me is the Redline Metro Classic. I haven't been able to find one anywhere around here to test ride though. The Redline is cheaper at $1100 MSRP but I'm like you and prefer SRAM Apex over Shimano. Swiching the Metro Classic to SRAM Apex would probably negate the cost savings.

I recently rode the Tiagra group on the Bianchi Volpe and it's better than the Shimano Sora group that I tested on the Tricross. On the Sora group you have to use the little thumb tab to drop to a smaller cog and you can only press that tab when you're riding the hoods. The Tiagra group uses the brake hood to move to a larger cog and a inner lever to drop to smaller cogs. Personally though, the SRAM Apex hoods feel more comfortable to me than the Shimano levers. I think they are just designed a bit different and happen to fit my hands better.
